Just bought my first LCD, an NEC 90GX2 19" (no dead pixels!). Needless to say the transistion from my old MAG 17 CRT is remarkable.
What is everyone using for their connection, DVI or VGA and why? I've researched the differences but no one tells you what they have experienced from "hands on" use with their LCDs in everyday use like the guys here on OC Forums. Right now I'm on VGA.
I could switch the connections and see for myself but I'm not sure what I should be looking for or what the visual gains would be or should be. Obviously I'm not a heavy gamer with this video card.

With DVI you don't have to fiddle with the auto adjust to get correct color. You could also use a longer cable and not get signal degradation. DVI is also better for resolutions higher than 1280x1024.
Most likely you will not see a difference in the signals. However on some cheaper monitors the DVI looks better.

Guys, I tried it on VGA for a few days and switched it over to DVI. DVI seems to be a little "crisper," especially with text. I do get a slight red shadow with some text but only on verticle letters such as lower case "i" and "l" . It's barely noticeable and acceptable.
Appreciate your expertise. RT
DVI(dual)>(DVI(single)=VGA)>HDMI>VGA(14pin)
I've tried all of those on MY TV and DVI-I looks just a pixel or 2 better then VGA.
I've yet been able to get HDMI to look anywhere near as good as VGA or DVI... it has the look of... minor jpeg artifacting.
But a heavily shielded VGA cable can be(and often is, if you know what I mean) just as good as DVI(single), unless you're dealing with resolutions over 1080p, then DVI(dual) is highly FTW.
Different models will look different when swtiching from DVI to VGA. The main things to look for are colour and sharpness.
Your HDMI input may not offer 1:1 pixel mapping.
Let me get in on this a bit too. I just bought a dual-link VGA card, will I see a great improvement if I buy a Dual-Link Cable?
My current cable is DVI-D [single link].
None at all.
Dual link is only used on very high resolution screens. You can use a dual-link cable with a single link screen, but the extra pins/wires will not get used for anything).
