I'm wondering what your opinions are between these two monitors (The 226BW doesn't seem to be available in Canada, for a decent price, for a good month and a half/two months).

Both are very close to the same price.

I was leaning towards the 225BW, but LG's monitor seems to have better specs on paper (even though it's their usual 'dynamic contrast ratio' reading).

So, if you had to buy a 22" widescreen monitor around $400 CDN, which one would you go for?

Hmm, guess I'll throw in the Dell E228 into the mix as well...it's on sale for $330 which makes it very tempting...but I've read very mixed reviews on it...

Both use the same panel. Quality differences will vary based on panel rather than brand.

Yeah, I was aware that pretty much all (if not all) of the 22" LCDs use the same panel.

There still must be some differences between the monitors though, I'm sure they can't all be 100% the same between brands.

Thanks for the link by the way, it should prove to be quite helpful.

No the LG LCD uses there own panel and the Samsung uses there own as well. Not sure what the Dell uses, buts its TN for sure.

The Samsung 226BW uses their own LCD, correct? I was under the impression that the 225BW is the good ol' Chi Mei screen.

I'm really leaning towards the LG right now...seems like a great monitor for not too terribly high of a price.

Thanks for the vote of confidence towards LG. I've never actually owned anything by them so I haven't had any LG experience at all.

I guess you saw that big thread over at HardOCP then I presume :)

Kind of a dirty tactic for them to use...

Hmmm, I'm seriously considering the Dell E228 now...I can get it for a good $100 cheaper than the LG or Samsung monitor.

I just don't know if it's any good, considering the LG *may* not be using the same Chi Mei screen...

Pretty muvh most of every 22inch in a crappy TN panel. I had an old LG 20 inch WS LCD, and it was just ok, mainly due to the fact that TN's are pretty bad in general.

I've never owned an LCD monitor before though, so it's not like I can look at it and say, "Hell, this thing isn't nearly as good as my S-IPS panel!"

I just don't want to be really disappointed...I've built a great computer and I want a monitor that completes the package nicely...but I also don't want to go spending a ton of money either. (So no super awesome 24" LCD for me...)

Well, after long deliberation, agonizing and second guessing I think I've decided to go with the Dell.

I went to Future Shop and Best Buy today to look at some monitors in person. Future Shop was a waste of time since they had them all running off the same crap signal (wasn't even a wide-screen resolution) so I couldn't tell much. The 225BW seemed like it had a very nice picture to it though.

Best Buy however, had some monitors set up on computer systems with the proper native resolution. They had an Acer and a Gateway 22". Both had great looking pictures in my eyes. Now, if the Acer, 225BW and Gateway 22"s all looked good to me, I think I would be safe in getting the Dell E228WFP for a cheap price since it's using the same screen anyways.

Oh well, no point in ordering over the weekend since they won't ship it anyways, so I have until monday to finalize me decision.

Yeah, they seem to be completely removed from my part of Canada until the end of this month/beginning of April.

I can't last that long on a 10 year old 17" CRT :)
