Just picked it up after looking at all the competing models. The only drawback I saw was the potential to get a crappy one with dead pixels or the humming noise. Otherwise, it looks awesome and has many inputs. I circumvented the above potential problems by getting it at Best Buy and getting the 3 year in-store coverage.
Haven't even hooked it up to a computer yet, but am currently using it for watching dvds. Very impressive. I prefer black to apple's cinema display silver.
I highly recommend this product but urge all potential buyers to get it at a local place and add an extended in-store warranty. Gateway is notorious for being a bunch of a-holes when it comes to getting a monitor fixed...especially outside the 12 month period.

I didn't have any issues with an RMA from Gateway, although the communication could have been a bit better - I received the replacement monitor before I received the tracking number.

I am looking at this monitor. For 679 and 1:1 mapping, it looks very nice:beer:

It seems the only one up it has on the Dell 2407WFP is the extra Component jack and 1:1 pixel mapping, which I thought the A04 had (can someone confirm that?).

Gateway is good with returns, actually. My roomate had a problem with his 21" and they sent him a new one quickly, and even let him keep the old one.

Glad to see some real competition for the dell 24".

It also helps that Bestbuy sends out 12% off for reward zone stuff and I have a 100$ gift card there. Thus for 500$ I can get a LCD which is way below what I would pay for the Dell.

I'd really like to see this and a Dell 24" side by side. Even better if they had a 2405FPW, since, you know, some of us jumped the gun before the new HDCP units came out.
Edit: Meant that I'd really like to see it side by side myself. I was happy to see that the Dell 2405FPW is compared against this a lot after I got a couple of pages into the article. =) Thanks for the link!

According to the anandtech review they are pretty much the same. Id say whichever screen you can get for the best price wins. Outside of that it is splitting hairs between the two.

I think I would lean towards Dell, mostly b/c for the price of the Gateway it has a 3 year warranty ($725 if you go for 5) and its also a name brand I can trust (going Gateway would be like going with Sylvania for just about anything, just doesn't feel right even though it works).

anyone ever tried calling dell customer support? some guy in india who's taken accent suppression classes but still can't slow down. Dell was a no-name in displays until they started making decent CRT by putting trinitron displays in their higher end stuff (just like sony)...and those dell units performed just as well as the sony units.
The LCD panels are still new and I don't claim to be an expert; however, a well-regarded supplier of components is Faroudja. The panels supplied by Faroudja for the gateway is top of the line. I have personally avoided gateway historically for their nasty design...but their 24" lcd is a piece of art. Performance-wise, it does 1080p natively. It also has tons of inputs. If it was price alone, I would have gotten the Dell 24" at costco (so I could return it should badness goes down). Instead, I used frequent flyer miles to buy the gateway from bestbuy and also got the 3 year plan. I also don't think much of gateway's customer support reputation.
I've now had the display for 2 weeks and love it. I continue to highly recommend it over dell and apple if money is not a consideration.
Sylvania?? I fart in your general direction.

I had a Gateway 24" but it was a hummer and I returned it. Didn't want to exchange it because even without that the wierd color shifting bothered me. That is a trait of the panel type which others (including the Dell models) might have as well but for some reason more people complain about it on the Gateway than others, perhaps they use cheaper control electronics somewhere. An advantage of the Dell is the warranty and the chance to get an IPS panel, and if you want to work for it by monitor swapping a 'guaranteed' IPS.
I would recommend the Gateway for someone who wants to use it as a mixed monitor/tv/video screen/etc and a Dell to someone who is going to use it mostly as a monitor.

I have the 24" Gateway and have been having some serious issues. When I do the 1:1 mapping I get a serious problem in the form of a line that comes up in the middle of the monitor and no matter what I do I can't seem to fix it. It happens when I hook my 360 up to it with VGA, I don't know if that's what is considered banding or not but it is horrible. Anytime there is fast action, IE Splinter Cell and I am spinning around the monitor has a flickering line in the middle of it. I would strongly urge people to stay away from this monitor as it has been nothing but a problem for me.
Aside from that, I had one panel that leaked light through the corners like a mofo so watching a movie on it was hell because you'd just be fixated on the white corners of the monitor. They sent me a replacement and the thing buzzed like a hornet's nest. However, prefering the crappy light pollution from the sides over the buzz, I retained my original. Never have I regretted spending this much cash on something in my life. Usually when I splurge I thoroughly enjoy my purchase.
If anyone knows what I can do to address that line problem though, my worries would be eased.

Did the replacement monitor have the line problem?

A line, as in a horizontal line across the display? Sounds like VSYNC issues.

Return it again. That's what I did until I got a decent display. A pain in the butt, but now I'm very pleased.
