View Full Version : Is a Dell 2407 for me???

I must admit, this is the first time looking for a monitor has been so strenuous. I had a gargantuan 19" Viewsonic E90f up until this past summer when I invested in a 19" LCD from Viewsonic, the VX922. 2ms response time, is an awesome monitor, backlight bleeding is noticeable around the edges when on a black screen (don't really care) and I haven't looked back since. However, now that college is merely six months away, I want something new; something HUGE that can give me the resolutions I want. The 24" LCD category is the perfect candidate for what I want, but this is where things get muddy. For the past two weeks I've been flopped back and forth from positive reviews to negative reviews about every 24" monitor in existence. From the Samsung 244t, to the BenQ FP241WZ/FP241VW, to the Acer AL2416/AL2423, to the Gateway FPD2485W, as well as the Dell 2407. From the information I've gotten, the Dell 2407 seems to fit the bill the best (price & quality), but I'm still looking for other opinions. All I want to do is use the monitor for my computer (DVI; used for gaming, CAD, web, and AV editing), my Xbox 360 (Psyclone VGA hookup @ 1080 res, I dunno if it's 1080p specifically it just states 1920x1080 in the resolution options, but I would think it is a progressive signal), and my Wii (Psyclone Component hookup @ 480p) with the best quality possible, minimal BS, and have it be something I won't regret dropping $600+ on. I'm open to opinions (and if one is better but I should wait for firmware, add it into the post). Thank you in advance.

Not with that graphics card. 1920x1200 with that graphics card will likely get you fps in the teens.

O.o, I should mention that I'm building a new system along w/ the purchase of the monitor, so disregard the computer in my sig b/c it's not going to be the one running off the monitor.

So, essentially, the Dell 2407 (A04) is my best bet then?

I just got mine yesterday, I haven't hooked it up yet but it looks and posistions smoothly, has 4 usb ports, and a media reader built in, something the 30" doesn't have =/

Evilsizer, go Sharp if you're gunna get a 1080p LCD TV. I've been selling TVs at Sears for a few months now, and Sharp is BY FAR my favorite item to sell (best contrast ratios out there, and we've had HDDVDs and XBox 360s hooked up to the 46" Sharp and a 46" Sony XBR and the difference is HUGE, the Sharp being better by far), and as a plus side, they don't cost nearly as much as the Samsungs or the Sonys:
42" Sharp 1080p: $1899.99 (6ms, 6000:1) Free S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889101097
46" Sharp 1080p: $2199.99 (4ms, 10000:1) $99.99 S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889101094
52" Sharp 1080p: $3299.99 (4ms, 10000:1) Free S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889101095
Compared to the Samsungs:
40" Samsung 1080p: $1999.99 (8ms, 6000:1) $99.99 S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889102062
46" Samsung 1080p: $2699.99 (8ms, 6000:1) $99.99 S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889102103
52" Samsung 1080p: $3599.99 (8ms, 6000:1) $99.99 S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889102115
And just for good measure, the overpriced (but decent) Sony XBRs:
40" Sony XBR: ~$2399.99 (4.5ms, 7000:1) ~$99.99 S&H
46" Sony XBR: $2999.99 (4.5ms, 7000:1) $99.99 S&H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889252019
52" Sony XBR: ~$3999.99 (4.5ms, 7000:1) ~$99.99 S&H
*Note*, I didn't have prices for the 40" and 52" XBRs, I put the last price I saw the 40" for up and estimated for the 52" price.

Westinghouse 37" 1080p is a great deal, IMO. Usually sells for $1000 - $1300.
