I think maybe there are a few of you that could appreciate this as much as myself. Leadtek now has the PVR3000 which claims to have Component Y/Pb/Pr. It isn't DVI or HDMI like we all wish it was. But its a start. Mine will be arriving in the mail today. I am going to be using it with my dishnetwork HD 622 receiver. I'll report back and let you know how the picture looks.

Link to the card.

Bought mine from the egg for $99. Not a bad price for the caliber of card it is. It even comes with certified Vista drivers(32bit and 64bit). Way to go leadtek.

Please left me know if it works.
I have Direct TV HD and I want to record shows in highdef. 1080i or 780p
I tried to get a hd dvr but they said I had to have a land line ( phone line ) for it to work ( which I don't have ) I only a cell phone and a wireless internet card.It will cost way to much to run a reg phone line.

You might want to push them on this. A co-worker was given the same information (and he did put in a new landline), but after everything was set up he unpluged the phone line and it still works perfectly, so.... I have a feeling they want the phone line to force-feed you "updates" so there is probably a way around it. Have you tried looking at Broadband Reports (http://www.broadbandreports.com/) to see what others are reporting?

They want the phone line to force feed you Pay Per View. Dishnetwork charges me $5 a month for not having a phone line. It's a dirty little game the sat TV companies play. I've found it works really well to use them against each other. Call Direct TV and tell them you can't handle not having an HD DVR and if they cant works something out then your switching over to Dishnetwork and they will give you one. I can almost guarantee you they'll figure something out. And if they don't....well dishnetwork has a better DVR, more HD channels, and can work without the stuppid phone line.

You do not need a phone line for a directv hd dvr, the dvr reports back to directv what you watch and they sell this information, use it to get advtisements, they are trained to tell you you need a land line, you do not, and all updates come from the satelite signal not from the phone line, you do need a phone line to get certain pay per views, on another point, any reviews on this card yet?

I got the card and for the most part it's great. One major problem though. The component video in only seems to work if i set my DVR to 480i. Anything higher and the picture goes nuts. This is a huge bummer, but in all fairness the picture quality with 480i component video does look noticeably better than S-Video. The problem for me though, I have my DVR hooked to both my HDTV and the PC. Obviously I don't want to use my 1080p HDTV with just a 480i signal. So I end up choosing, give up picture quality on my TV and have better pic on my computer, or use S-Video on my comp and keep max pic quality on my TV. So for now I'm using S-Video on the PC. Hope all that made sense

Do you happen to have an old Xbox to hook up to it? I'm currently using a TV AverMediaBox 9 to hook up component to my monitor. It doesn't look as clean as it should be via Component.

Sorry I don't have an Xbox anymore or I'd give it a try for you. Only thing I have with component is my DVR.

I think I am going to wait and either switch to cable and an ati cable card usb box, if they ever get released, or wait for directv to activate a usb interface from their box to my pc, and just face the fact that I have to jump through digital rights hoops since our governement is in the pockets of hollywierd.

Seems like they disabled true HD resolution input. Maybe try 480p?
EDIT: I just looked at that card and it is a standard definition capture card. Thats why you can only use 480i. That sucks, I was looking forward to testing this card.

I did try 480p with now luck. It was too good to be true anyways. A true HD capture card.........maybe in the year 2010. I find it ridiculous that noone has a capture card with true component video in for less then $1k. How difficult can it be?

it's simply b/c noone will or better yet could make a consumer HD STB capture card w/out any law suit followed!! and that's why we are limited to OTA HD capture only b/c it's "free". cablecard & M$ (more DRM) might change that down the road. but for now, there's NO HD channel capturing from your HD STB at all, period! if they do, I'll be all over for at least a couple one instead of OTA HD!!

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm waiting for DirecTV to get 130 HD channels and make their "card" for vista mediacenter. But who knows whether or not that will ever make it without having to be a "certified" builder. DIY guys are dangerous to them for some reason.

I seriously doubt directv or dish will be releasing a pc card. First of all, that would be far to good to be true. Second, they already have so many people using PC cards to steal free program it's a huge battle for them as it is. They know that if they release something that goes inside a pc there will be wide open hacks for it within days of it's release. It's a darn shame too. HD tv on my desktop would be just too sweet. Heck, I could change channels and surf the guide with my mouse. Wouldn't that be great!!

Is there any hardware solution that would allow me to archive HD 1080i video from my Highes Direct TV DVR? My DVR is now full of HD material that I recorded in HD and would like to transfer to my computer hard disk, for later playback through my HDTV. My Video card has both DVI and HD component out, so playback would not be a problem once I have the programs on my hard disk at 1080i.

You and everyone else Oregonron. I have been trying to find a HD capture card for a few years now. As of yet I have not been able to find one at any price. There are expensive industrial grade cards out there that cost a grand or three, but they aren't made for watching tv on your computer. If anyone knows of such a card for less then $1000 that can take DVI, HDMI, or HD Component then please speak up.
