I "NEED" to get a new monitor asap - gave mine to my son...

So, I've been looking at the following:

1) Dell 30" .... $1400 CDN
2) Dell 24" .... $750 CDN
3) Benq 24" ...$820 CDN
4) Gateway 24" .. $750 CDN
5) Acer 26" ... $890 CDN

The Dells are on sale now until tomorrow i think...that's why there's a hurry if i buy one of the Dells...

Anyways, I'm using a Samsung 32" 3241D HDTV right now - very nice...only 1 problem: Too frickin bright! 3000:1 contrast is destroying my eyes real quick! (sitting 3 feet or 4 away from it)

* Dell 30" is nice because of the size - downside only has 1 dvi connection...
* Dell 24" is good, but other components are worthless supposedly because they don't do 1:1 mapping..? PLus banding issues...?
* Benq 24" is good as the Dell and it also has HDMI...nothing wrong with this monitor...? other than some people saying not as good of quality as dell in the build...
* Gateway is good... actually had it for 2 days. Dead pixel within first day...was kind of overly bright though i think... I think nothing wrong with it except it's a Gateway - who knows of its reliability...
* Acer: bigger is better...but once again, only DVI/VGA...no swivel/tilt/etc i think...

I know of where to get the Benq with fixed 1:1 mapping...also the Acer 26" with the fixed DVI not doing 1920x1200...

Most of my time is used for internet reading/etc... I also like my Oblivion/NWN2/Lockon to look nice when I play those... :)

Am also getting the 8800GTX to use with my system in my sig - so res isn't gonna be a problem...

So, the question: which of the ones listed has nicest picture and reliability? I can't get the 8800gtx with the 30" Dell though...too much money together... :(

Need help..................

Another vote for the 2407. The card reader and USB ports are handy(The 30" lacks them).

Nice compromise between size and price. Its a $150 cheaper then my 2405 was.

3007 pwns all! No seriously, I replaced my 21" trinitron with the 3007, worried a bit about performance in games, but was completely blown away and I couldn't be happier with the thing. my 7950gt handles the 2560x1600 just fine on the games I play (cs:s, bf2142, etc.) but I can't turn up ALL the candy like i used to, until I get the r600.

I bought the 2407 six months ago and now I wish I just spent the little extra and got the 3007 WFP :(

One vote for the Gateway here. The Nov06 models had some issues, but I just got a December model that's excellent.

Supports 1:1 pixel mapping, which is a feature I like.

I walked by that display just today at Circuit City and was pretty impressed by the quality of the panel. The appearance alone is very nice. I will have to remember to put a game on a flash drive and test drive it someday.

This has 1:1 pixel mapping as well. A feature I leave off most of the time.

What really impresses me the most is that each input is independent. Each one has its own brightness settings. Unlike a any TV which is a global function.

I have a PC connected to the VGA, and another on the DVI, plus it has 2 component inputs, s-video, and conposite. And if you want to add the optional speakers, it has a power plug built into the monitor...

I think many LCD displays have different settings for different inputs. I know my Westinghouse 37w3 does. I agree, this is very handy.

I've never had anything that had multiple inputs before where as I wouldnt even notice... ;) This is my first LCD, and is another reason why I went bigger than the standard 19" that most every gets.

Having a beefy video card and limiting it to only 1280 x 1024 is just silly.

But I really like that feature, alot... Plus I have PIP which is also very useful.

NCIX.com (they have US site too... just click the option on that page.)

The BenQ has PIP plus HDMI input - no other LCd has HDMI right now. On it now...need to find out how to test for banding because I may be seeing some - but I see it in my Aquarium screensaver so don't know if the screensaver itself isn't that great. My video card got "lost" in today's shipment so I'm still using my son's PC to test the monitor... my games and stuff are on my PC... but the pic quality isn't much different from the ACER 24" AL2423W LCD I temp used from Best Buy...

This LCD also has Movie, Dynamic, Standard and Photo modes (you can edit the modes yourself and it'll remember them).

1:1 mapping is only useful if connecting XBOX360, PSx, DVD, etc,...

EDIT: Seems there's ghosting on this lcd when moving card on green background in Solitaire...
