Well, I'm not sure if the FW900 is a good idea for me. I do tons of writing for school on my computer and CRTs are the reasons I wear glasses, so I do prefer LCDs based on what I have to get done, even though I'm a heavy gamer.
Keep it <700, and give me some ideas on a widescreen 24" LCD.
And just so you know, I'll probably have a r600 when they come out, to keep up with the res. :)

I've heard good things about Dell panels. How's ghosting?

I've heard the 2407 has minimal ghosting. I'm looking at one of these myself.

I don't think you will find a good enough 24" LCD for less than $600. But if you can go a little bit over, the 2407 is an excellent choice. ( you can catch them on sale for $625 sometimes. And they are often on sale for like $675, it's on sale right now for $674.)
So I'd try to come up with the extra few bucks and get a great display. Maybe go through the closet and find a few things to put up in the classifieds to fund the extra:)

Indeed, I didn't read my original but i meant <700. I'll go edit.
I didn't realize the price difference between the 22" and 24". It's normally 350 dollars, which is a lot of dough I could put towards a sweet video card or something. :P
Do you think a 22" would be a better option or should I splurge for a 24?

Ahh well...if you can spend $700...then jump on the 2407WFP before the price goes back up over $700!

I'll also say my 2405fpw is fantastic.
Other people like the gateway 24" as well, however Dell seems to have a nice loyal following for good reasons.

Not to take away from the subject at all, but is the Samsung 244t any good compared to the Dell 2407 (A04)?

That's not a take away at all. Keep on asking question like that!

I could have sworn that samsung made/makes the dell panels. The only difference is the features that the monitor comes with.

The Samsung is going for about +$150 over the Dell, but Dell also offers protection plans w/ their panels (5yr damage replacement + monitor for $750, not bad at all). I'm mainly looking for something to hook up my 360 (which I have a VGA cable for) and my Wii to and get the best out of them. Recently, a lot of people have been saying that the Dell 2407 A04 won't take 1080p over the VGA (since the Wii is only 480p, it doesn't really matter :P), is this true, and if what Gunlance says is correct, also true w/ the Samsung 244t? I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck.

I thought I read somewhere that the point of the A04 update was to fix the issues with 1080p support

Those are 2407's though. I owned one for about 6 months, and recently purchased a second one.
Vote for the Dell 2407. Have had the 2405 for about a year now , and still love it.

TIP: I went on eBAY and got a 25% coupon from Dell - make sure it's from someone reputable. Cost me like $10 and saved me over $100. I just did a quick search but could only find 10% off today...

is there a noticeable difference between the 16ms on the dell 2407 and the 6ms on the gateway 24"?
that was my biggest concern, would rather go with the dell but not if the gateway is going to perform that much better.
thoughts?

The gray to gray ratings are the same on both of those displays. Both have 6ms. The 16ms rating for the 2407 is black to white. The gray to gray timing is on what most LCD's are rated.

ah, thanks a ton jive, really was hoping i could stick with the dell but i was hesitant because of the response times, thanks for clearing it up.

Yes it does,I have an A04 that has all that and more (new panel, less banding, does 1:1 at any res supported, including 16x12 and 19x10) Stay far away from the 244T IF you plan on gaming.I tried one and was very upset with its performance overall (TONS of input lag).My 2407 kicks all sorts of azz :)
