this is what happens when you apply excessive direct force to an LCD panel. I work in the IT department at my college and apparently one of the students in the open lab got peeved at something on their screen. I bet it was one of the hockey players. what do you think? lol

I hope they caught the jack a$$ who did that and made him pay for the damages.

we have no idea who did it.

i actually have the same 19" display at home and playing my games at 1280x1024 with the DVI looks great. I paid about $320 for mine a while back. I'm sure the school got a deal by ordering so many but still.

we have cameras in all of our IT rooms/computer centers for this very reason....

This is exactly why I convinced my brother NOT to get an LCD, he's always punching his 19" CRT.

I've seen a screen on my campus like that as well.. some people have no self control.

Wow... Good thing my school has either eMac G4's or students have their own laptops.

Come to think of it, faculty have LCD's... Oh well.

That is tough luck though, I hope you catch the culprit!

i work in IT, and i always have business owners and clients touching MY dell 19" lcd

examples

- pointing at screen and pressing finger into it ("ooooo i like the colours")
- pointing at screen with sharp fingernails and running lines across it to show me wtf you are on about
- using a pen to do same thing as above
- using it like a touch screen

these are four real world examples of highly paid idiots.. i mean people sitting next to me while we discuss web sites and projects.

seriously i nearly choked when the lady keep running her fingernails across it !:(

if they get the guy or girl who did that they are going to be poor paying for a new one

That's disgraceful. I hope they made this person pay. On the other hand, I did find some inspiration for a new wallpaper ;)

I'm sure its just coincidence but it almost looks like you can see the fist outlined in black. Sucks that people treat others stuff like that, but at least it was the university's and not yours, but stuff like that raises tuition...

My 26 year old daughter poked her LCD just the other night showing me something online she wanted me to check out. I cringed and promptly told her not to ever touch or poke her screen or eventually she'll damage it beyond repair. Hopefully she listened to me.

That's so ****ty. It's kinda funny how whenever something bad happens, everyone thinks right away, "musta been the hockey boys".

I am so going to use that as a prank on some friends now. Don't touch my freakin' screens, one's already broken!

so i was talking to the other tech at work, the full time one, and there is word going around that something might have been thrown and ended up hitting it.

also, i found out that LCD screens are actually very durable (to a degree). they can with stand a great amount of pressure before they break. but it also depends on factors such as how small of an object is pushed against it. in our case there were 2 areas that got the hit and it spread out like a pane of glass.

the day after this happened, they closed the computer center and put a sign up that it won't be opened till someone comes forward or someone reports any info about who did it. whats the chances they come forward? lol

LCD's Have gotten VERY inexpensive in the past year. Remember what they costed back in 2002 for just a 15 inch.

yeah, I spent just over 600 bucks for two 19" widescreen monitors just before the new year. Gonna get one more before summer here.

yeah, I promise that'll be the last time I post that picture.... at least until I get the third screen up an running in about six months when I can afford it again! It's like having sex, but then another woman jumps out of the closet completely naked! The Joy and Elation of 2 just can't be described to some people.
