Anyone have any suggestions as between these two? I'll mostly be using the computer for average desktop use with some moderate gaming, including an xbox360 hook-up through the VGA port. I might also hook it up to an HDTV source if I become so inclined.

Price is roughly the same, although the Samsung figures to be about $30 or so more expensive, which is certainly not a deal breaker.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Specs:
Samsung 22", 700:1 contrast ratio, 280 cd/m2 brightness, 5ms response
Dell 22", 800:1 contrast, 300cd/m2 brightness, 5ms response

I have the Dell 22" and love it. Plenty fast, no dead/stuck pixels and loads of real estate for opening lots of windows :)

Samsung has had a bad name for support in Australia over the past couple of years, but seems to be improving. Can't speak for other regions.

Honestly if you can get the Dell cheaper I'd probably go that route, I LOVE my 225BW, but everyone seems to love their Dell's just as much, and it does have better specs, though you might want to check and see if the dell has an 8bit panel, the color reproduction may be better on the samsung if it has the older 6 bit

big mike is right... if the dell is a little cheaper people here and around have good things to say about dell. i only have a samsung 940bw (19inch wide) but when i got it from best buy o say four months ago... as soon as i walked up to the "monitor display" wall where they have 89236478263 monitors side by side... this samsung looked great. im planning on stepping up to a 22 or 24 inch wide here in the next couple of months and samsung and dell are running 1,2 right now as far as what im going to buy next. :)

I'd go with the dell, especially if you don't like backlight bleed. That's definitely the weakness of the Samsung.

If it's a considerable option, check out the Acer line of 22" displays. I preffered my old Acer over this samsung, but opted to trade because of my new desk and a need to have a tilting screen.

I don't think the newer units are nearly as bad for back light bleed, mine still has some, but its not nearly as bad as the pictures ive seen from earlier monitors

The Samsung was purchased on boxing day, it's fairly new. I'm not complaining, it's still a great monitor, I was just pointing out, what in my opinion, was the weakness of the Samsung.

Have 'new' units been shipped since boxing day?

Lol, I had to look up Boxing day, mine's a little older, got it black friday, i guess its just hit or miss on what monitor you get then? Most of the sites I read as time went on the level of complaints about it were dropping so people were assuming newer units weren't as bad, maybe thats not the case? Different people will react differently to the bleed levels too, to me its nearly non existant on my screen.
