Ok I'm running a OCZ GamerXtreme 600 watter and the fan is way to loud. With all my fans running at the lowest setting I can hear the PSU fan in the living room. I was wondering if the Scythe S-Flex (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=49&products_id=4072) would be a good replacement. I'll be getting a 3 pin to 2 pin adaptor for this.

I'd say that's probably good replacement. I'm not sure how picky you are about sound. If you are like a SPCR guy or something, you might find that fan to not be quiet enough. But if you are a normal-ish person, it should be good and quiet.
I had the version F's which are louder than the E's...and I felt that the level of noise versus the airflow was very good. They were totally unobtrusive. So I'd think the E's can only be better.
Another option would be the Noctua NF-S12-1200. They are supposed to as quiet as a Nexus D12SL-12, but they push more air (36CFm vs 48CFM). I've heard they don't have great static pressure. But I don't think that would really be too much of a problem in a PSU. I think they are also a little pricey. But then the Scythe's aren't exactly cheap.

have you tried running the fan at a lower voltage? That would be the cheapest way to go
Since I own most of the quiet fans out there I can reflect on this one
Nexus will be the quietest
Noctua
Yate Looms
Scythe 1200 rpm
Yate looms are the best pick, they are slightly louder than noctua but push slightly more air. Scythe fan is louder than both noctua and yate looms at full speed.
Honestly I would ditch psu, the fan isn't loud it just has poor thermal management

I doubt I would ditch a $120PSU cause of a load fan. Since adding the Scythe all is good. Loudest thing in my case now if the GPU fan only during gaming tho.

Don't you void your 3 year warranty with ocz by swapping the fan tho?

Yes you do, but mine was shot to hell when I cut off a few cables.

Don't open the PSU. Send me an email and I'll get you an RMA. The fan in the PSU you have must be faulty as GameXStream fans are normally very quiet.

It's a little late to do that. As said befire I made a few of the wires modular. I did however send an e-mail to OCX about the fan, got one back linking me to a review. Seems when the fan is running full speed it's 35 to 37DBa.

Wicked did you ever get around to doing this mod? I'm about to do the same to my GamerXtreme 700w.
It's the loudest fan in my case.

I thought I was crazy!
My 700w GameXtreme is the loudest thing in my pc too. It's such an annoying whine. I'm regretting buying that psu more every day haha.
Let me know what you guys end up doing. I would imagine that it would void my warranty, right? Not a big deal, I'd rather lose the noise.

You guys have faulty units... mine is so quite I have to turn all my fans OFF to even come close to hearing it!
I wonder if OCZ could do it for you, so you could maintain your warranty. maybe for like 10$?

Well, I already moved my PSU location to the middle of my case so I can place a PSU muffler behind it. The blue light is cool any everything, but my case don't have windows... just curios to see what Wicked did and how much it helped. Thinking about buying a bunch of those orange yate loons from SVC.

Oh I can't RMA mine either. I had to splice and lengthen the EATX CPU1/CPU2 connectors by 4 inches so that it would reach my mobo w/o looking ugly.
Edit: It's not faulty, when you're OCing a high draw CPU/GPU the fan goes to max. That and I'm also running a pair of raptors and w/cing.

nah, mine is jacked. I'm not ocing anything right now, and with the fan on low, it whines.

OK, As an update....
I bought a new case today for my computer. So, I had the psu out, and saw a good opportunity to change mu psu fan.
I had one of these laying around:
http://svc.com/af12025.html
I had to cut the leads on the stock fan, and the fan I had because the tail of the af fan I was putting in diddn't fit on the psu header.
ANYWAYS, it's silent now, and I'm happy :D

Yea it's done and working great. Had to take a nibbler and make a notch for the fan cable so I could hook it to a fan header.
