If you mainly game, get a 21" crt. Can't go wrong with that.

I went with the Westinghouse for $199.99 since the Samsung 225bw was only $250 or 279.99 after $100 and $50 mail in rebates at circuit city. Rebates are evil, 8 weeks for your money back if you even remember to mail it in. A/V in on the Westinghouse but not the Samsung.

Doh, you where comparing the Samsung 20 inch to Westinghouse 22 inch, I'd go with size ;)

Not me, I'd go with picture quality and clarity. Monitors are like underwear, I'd rather wear comfortable cotton briefs, than have to wear uncomfortable wool boxers, just because one is bigger doesn't mean it's better :beer:

PS, The best bet would be to pay a little more and get the comfortable cotton boxers, same applies to monitors. I once had a 19" crisp and clear sony crt, I then upgreded to a 22" NEC which had fuzzy uncrisp images. Later on down the road I paid more for a 21" Sony tubed monitor to replace the larger 22"

With monitors, size is not everything, especially if you spend a fair amount of time in front of the monitor.. :rolleyes:

Got me there even tho I did add that /wink :p

But this Westinghouse looks good with clear and sharp text but I only have a Viewsonic 19 inch CRT starting to get fuzzy in its old age, an old laptop at 1400x1050 15 inch and a crappy NEC 15 inch LCD to compare with. Nec low res of 1024x768 with so little desktop space made using it a pain when you're used to a res of 1400 and up.

I was going to get the Samsung 225bw since a lot of people recomend/like that brand but the reviews of backlight bleed thru on that model (even the Westinghouse does it), mail in rebates to get the sale price (the big iffy) and no A/V inputs made me reconsider (ease of use factor). Samsung and Westinghouse 22 inch models might use the same Chi Mei panel and I really wanted the 22 inch size :p

205BW = 8-bit Panel
Westy 22' = 6-bit Panel

IQ > Size... go with the 205BW when buying lcd's stay away from 6-bit panels if your going to game with it.

newegg is listing the 205BW as a-si TFT active matrix (tft/tn?) with 16.2 million colors so I thought that was a 6 bit panel with dithering?

edit: specs from samsung site http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS20HAWCBQXAA.asp?page=Specifications

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/specs.htm
24bit = 8 bit = 16.7 million colours
18bit with dithering = 6 bit = 16.2 million colours
18bit = 6 bit = 262,144 colours

Specs listed on sites arent always 100% accurate for LCD's http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1101774&highlight=205BW in the 205BW's manual its listed as 16.7M Colors (8bit + RGB)

All TN Film panels = Dithering. Some are 6-bit with FRC, some are 6-bit extended to 9-bit and figure as 8-bit in the specs (or 16.7 million colours). More modern panels seem to be the latter, look for "16.7 million colours" quoted in specs.

samsung ca lists 16.7

http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS20HAWCBQXAA.asp?page=Specifications
samsung us lists 16.2

what are you going to believe that, or the manual that it comes with that officially states that it is a 8-bit panel...also some of the latest TN panels are true 8-bit such as the 205BW..

since Samsung can't get all if its ducks in a row and most manuals have disclaimers on its accuracy I don't know :rolleyes:

when buying lcd's stay away from 6-bit panels if your going to game with it I thought a good gaming monitor needed low response time (ghosting) and 6 or 8bit did not matter as much?

IQ is KING but arn't tft/tn panels lower on the IQ scale to IPS, MVA, PVA type panels? Probably not a hard rule but a general one?
