I am very interested in the Dell 30" Widescreen. Any pros, cons to this monitor? Things I should look out for?
Will the res be compatible with my 8800gtx?
Any and all info would be appreciatied.
Hi dominick,
I just got my 8800gtx yesterday and it kicks a$$!! I can run bf2 @ 2560x1600 max everything with 4xAA and still hold the 99fps limit, bf2142 same settings 50-70fps. These 8800gtx's absolutley fly at xHD resolution. My 1800xt 256mb would only get me 25fps on bf2 at the same settings. I was expecting twice the performance with my upgrade but got x4 when maxed out, I presume the 768mb ram helps loads at those super high resolutions.
The monitor is pretty sweet although I am still waiting for my 3rd replacement :( See my thread here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=484087
Basically if you want the resolution and size it's the way to go, some of the games look amazing @ 2560x1600 but I still find the refresh rate not as fast as I would like for a fast FPS game, even though I'm pushing 100fps it still feels more like 60-70fps on a CRT.
At the moment you will have to sacrifice refresh rate for screen size if you want to go BIG, but overall I think it IS worth it if you have the $$$. Remember us ppl in the UK have to pay £1300 for this panel which works out about $2400!! And the 8800gtx's are £500 ($950) here as well :( at least 1 of them pushes this 3007 with ease so I can wait till after xmas before buying a second.
I think it should be made illegal to own a 8800gtx and run anything less than 1600x1200 ;)
This 8800GTX loves eating pixels and boy is it HUNGRY!!

PS have you managed to overclock yours yet? These driver suck big time, I haven't used nvidia since my 6800. Ati managed to bloat/wreck CCC and now nvidia have done the same :( The older control panels were so much better!

Thanks for the response Bob. Yes, I have been able to find a max so far of 665/1040 overclock. I am sure you will like to read my results thread: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=485898
What is the difference in refresh rate between the 24" and 30" dell? Thanks bro.
Dom
I think the 24 is slightly worse :( I cant remember ATM but I looked into it a while back).
My last panel was 8ms and the dell seems about the same to me, no worse anyhow, gotta dash, pub calling my name! I will read your thread later tonight when I'm drunk!
cheers

The 24" panels are cheap dog****, they use PVA which is inferior to S-IPS. However, I've seen the 30" panels in person at LANs and they are simply too big to be comfortable gaming on if you're going to have it sitting on your desk.

I get what your saying, but after a week I can sit 18" away and game no problem. It seems big at first but you do get used to it. It's great for flying a j10 or mig, Just try and not lean your head on every turn :)
What ever flaws the 30" screen has, I wouldn't swap it for anything! Bring on the 42" panels!

I've got the 2407fpw, and its not cheap by anymeans. I've experienced no problems with mine. No ghosting, HD works fine, ect. The best quality monitor I've owned... and I've owned a few. I absolutely love the resolution too.
The issues that plagued the 2407 disappeared when the A02 reversion came out....
If you do order one of the dells, make sure you order it via the phone, otherwise you'll wait 2 weeks for it to ship.

More distance between the chair and monitor :sn:

Just so you know a new version/revision (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/11/15/dell_updates_3007wfp/) of the 3007wfp is comming out. The new verison may do one of two things, provide superior quality that usually is lacking in higher sized screens or drive the price of the existing model down.
