I would like to be able to play all of the latest games and watch action movies with bliss, BUT I would also like to surf the web.

I have heard over and over again how Rear Projection DLP monitors are the "WAY TO GO!" but I have never been told if you could read text on a RP DLP

Are RP DLP's "THE WAY TO GO!"? or is LCD king for HTPC love?

Thanks

Yup DLP's are just fine, just make sure it can do the resolutions that you need. My buddy has a kickass 61" DLP 1080p, and we hooked up a friends SLI rig up to it, and it looked just like our 21" CRT's in clarity. Give or take a bit for each brand, but you should be fine, and if the text is a bit screwy, just up the text dpi to fix that problem. That and they are terrific for gaming, no lag whatsoever :D

I bought the Philips 42PF752, only a 42" (philips do bigger I believe) but just right for my living room. Gives briliiant colour, brightness and contrast it even has a neat feature where it adjusts the picture brightness according to ambient light. Has picture in picture, sso you can be surfing the net and watching TV and the dame time, he he he. The panel is HD ready up to 1080i (720i and p also) love playing Pinball Fantasies (or the Mega Drive) on it, much to her delight :))

IMO,

DLP has a rainbow effect.
LCD does not have perfect black.
Plasma lamp replacement sucks.

I would try to get a TV that could run at least a 1080i because of the resolution that you want for gaming.

Almost all DLP's from good brands do not have any rainbow effect at all. Especialy my friends 61" Samsung, not a hint of it at all.

Im not sure what insurance you will get offered in the US, when you buy a new TV, but when I bought mine, I was offered to cover the Tv for 3 or 5 years (5 being roughly its lifespan) for a couple of hundred quid. I read the insurance, and they will repair the TV, covering costs to send it to the manufacturer as well, if they can't they will replace it. The list of things its covered for is long, absolutely everything, spilling stuff on it, lamp burning out, screen burn, getting knocked over and smashed. Just be careful and read the terms, as some companies don't cover certain things, but then theres always the contents inssurance on your house :)
