None on any of mine thus far. I'm very curious as to how many people actually have them. We all fear them but how many people have had them?
I have one, always was there. Viewsonic 700b monitor, 3 years old, 16ms. Like it a lot.

Using DPB I have two dead green pixels, that I never knew about!
(ViewSonic VP191b)
None on my fiance's BenQ T705, good thing cause thier technical support might as well not exist
I had dead/stuck pixels and exchanged the LCD for another one that had dead/stuck pixels. Finally the 3rd one was perfect.
I'm glad I bought it locally. Its too much money to spend knowing you can't do anything if its defective when you buy online.

PS, I wish people that voted they exchanged their LCD with dead or stuck pixels, listed the Vendor or Manufacturer

My thinkpad has 3 dead pixels in the display. I bought it second hand though, so I can't say whether it came like that. The screen is pretty hammered so it is likely the previous owner inflicted the damage (the backlight coating was damaged by liquids or something and if you're not viewing it +/- 10* the backlighting looks very uneven and harsh). I've looked into getting it replaced but the drop in units are obscenely priced (400 USD) and I don't know what would be required to replace it for a like unit, if it is even possible (I recently saw that somebody upgraded his powerbook lcd so I suppose it IS possible). My 2005fpw has 0 dead pixels.

No dead pixels on my cheapy AL1716D (http://global.acer.com/products/monitor/1_series.htm). The best deal I have gotten in a long time. For the $130 I spent, it is a great monitor. Since I got it local, I was not as worried about dead pixels.
I have never gotten a LCD with dead pixels.

I have one stuck green in the lower right hand corner on my new-ish 1907fp. Its on the taskbar so I never bothered to return it. Starting to bug me now that I'm going to be selling it to get a 2407.

20" wide Dell came perfect and has been that way for almost a year now. Buddy of mine bought a cheap-o 19" online that came with 4-5 dead pixels. It looked pretty bad but I don't think he knew the difference. :-/

I've been fortunate to have never received a LCD with a dead pixel (as far as myself or my users can tell) but I've had LCD monitors with other issues.
Particularly my PQI/Xerox LCD at home will "burn" in a steady image after just a few minutes (like the menu bar for example), and it takes several hours for the burn to dissipate. It's annoying when I'm trying to do...well anything really, but turning the screen saver on after a minute seems to help it out.
Also, I've had a lot of problems with the VG920 LCD from Viewsonic. Viewsonic's other LCDs I've used have been fantastic but I've had to return 50% of my VG920 displays due to issues ranging from multiple horizontal lines to "sparkled background effects".

Ive not had to try it , but yes Ive heard it works in alot of cases to massage the pixel back to life .

None on my 20" w/screens. Although my PSP had, yes HAD, 7 or 8 dead center of the screen (so annoying!) until I fixed it by cycling the primary colors on the screen with a "gif" file for about 24 hours (anyone who owns a PSP should already know about that trick), then it was down to 1 and stayed that way up until I sold it.
Same can be done with an LCD monitor. If you notice you have what appear to be "dead" pixels, you may be able to bring them back to life by cycling the primary colors (eg. blue, green, red, white, black) rapidly for several hours.
What this basically does is "exercise" the transistors that power the row/column of their respective pixels, switching them from full off, to full on, etc...
Most of the time if you apply a black screen and find pixels that are white, chances are they are in fact "dead", but not all the time, but if the pixel happens to show a color, then there is a good chance the pixel is "stuck, or what I call lazy, and cycling the screen rapidly through the primary colors in most cases will bring them back to "life".
The program that SSS has graciously linked to will cycle through the colors well enough to do it, just set the "time cycle" to a value of "0" for the fastest result, although a better alternative to the program would be making an animated gif file with each frame the needed color, and setting the frame delay to "0" and using a program to display it full screen. That will cycle the colors at the fastest rate possible, and bring most "stuck" or "lazy" pixels back to life the quickest. (ATTN! not recommended for those who suffer from forms of epilepsy, as this can induce an epileptic attack in some people.)
I'm unsure if others who already responded in this thread know about tricks like this, if not, now you do!

I have one, always was there. Viewsonic 700b monitor, 3 years old, 16ms. Like it a lot.
Well, would you like to repair it?
I found a very neat little program that can do just that!! In order to fix a "so-called" dead pixel you'll need to blast it with mutiple colors and force it to turn on and off.
Here is the link. LINK #1 (http://udpix.free.fr/index.php?p=dl)
And if that website fails, I'm hosting the file as well.
LINK #2 (http://www.craftyphotos.com/software/UDPixel21_en_installer.exe)
It works very well. The color bars on the left let you find the dead pixel. Some Dead pixel's are green. Some are black, very few are blue. But this allows you to find them. Then on the right pane, select how many flashing boxes you need so you can fix multiply pixels at once. Move your mouse over it, and you'll get a cross. Click and hold to move it over the dead pixel. Plus, you can change the Flash or cycle interval. I hope my little find can help you guys with your dead pixels.
I think this deserves a sticky!
Enjoy!
Joe

I have trouble believing it works. I mean, if it's dead, it's dead, isn't it? I'll try this right now though.
Any luck so far Krogen? Or is this technique a slow process?
Weird stuff. I don't know what happened to my dead pixel. I downloaded the file and tried locating the pixel but I couldn't find it. As far as I remember it was always there but during normal use it was almost invisible since it was on the bottom right corner of the screen (peripheral vision not as effective as foveal?). It was only visible if the lcd displayed either a single color or I was watching a movie far from the screen itself. Not there.
Well, I don't want it back :)
I purchased a Samsung 940BX from ZipZoomFly.com with 4 stuck green pixels in the upper right hand corner.
I returned it and they sent me a 940BX with 1 stuck red pixel in the upper left hand corner.
I doubt I would purchase Samsung again.

If it's new, I would send it back.
15 dead pixels is not acceptable, I believe most places usually take them back if there are 9 or more, some places will replace them if there even less, but 15???

I had never checked any of my monitors before and am very happy to see no dead pixels on all 3. My oldest one is a Dell that was the first 19" LCD they offered and is some years old.
Guess it was worth what I payed for...I think it was about $1100.

I have about 3 dead pixels on my Viewsonic VX2025wm. They are around the center of the screen. They are only visible on a black background. It's a shame too, because I really like the screen. I'm debating whether or not to send it in for an RMA. I've tried using Udpixel, but no luck.

Well I just recently got a single sky-blue stuck pixel on my Westinghouse 22inch (the one that was on sale for 199.99 during black Friday). Really disappointed because you can clearly see it unless its on a white screen. I tried running "j-screen fixer", a free program that supposedly has a good success rate of fixing a stuck pixel. It worked the first time I used it for a day or two and now the stuck pixel is back and its driving me insane. I'm going to leave this program running while I'm at work and see if it changed anything when I get back.....

my former room mate's 17" samsung: 2, though the monitor was way used and looked like it had been thrown in a box and carried around for a week...
I think I'd kill myself, or perhaps less extreme, buy a new monitor, if I had a dead pixel, his monitor annoys the crap out of me, my eyes always go straight to those dead pixels
I have an LG 19" LCD. I said I had no dead pixels in the poll, but after running DPB I noticed that one pixel looks a little dim when displaying bright colors. I had to look really close to notice it, and I've never noticed it outside of DPB though.

Only reason why my monitors have dead pixels is because my bro and sister do not know how to clean the lcd =P. My pc's are locked so they dare not use mine =).

none here :) samsung 225bw :P
I just developed a whole dead column today (blue and red only... green lights fine) on my 6 week old Viewsonic VX2235wm :sigh: Definitely the monitor. tested it on more than one cable and computer. Maybe costco will do an exchange for me tonight, so I don't have to RMA to Viewsonic.
Edit 6/14/07: well I got another one... 2 dead and one blazing bright green stuck pixel right in the center of my view... great. I think they're going to give me a third one tonight, I do I do, like it or not.
Edit 6/14, late in the day: 3rd ones the charm... well it has 1 "hot pixel" at the bottom, but it acts like a normal pixel on a dark background.. i.e. off... close enough  the deal i got on it, I'm keeping it, guess I'm satisfied enough with this one.
I used to like viewsonic products... even their budget lines were always good quality. Looks like QC is being flushed down the toilet w/ everything else these days.

no dead pixels on my two 19" benq's at home. and 1 dead pixel on one of my 20" dells at work.
I have one pixel stuck on red on my Dell 2007wfp. I only noticed it when windows was booting and there was nothing else on the screen. It really is only noticeable at times when the screen is almost completely black, so it doesn't bother me at all.

So far 0
Just read this thread and voted no dead pixels, but then realized I should probably look a little closer. That is when I noticed 2 dead pixels on the lower right corner of the screen. But it is hardly noticeable on such a big monitor with such a high resolution (dell 3007 WFP). So I am not disappointed at all and probably would have never noticed it if it weren't for this thread.

I have a 17" Dell 1703FP and there is one odd pixel at the very bottom of the screen that you can only notice when the monitor is showing black bars for odd resolutions etc, otherwise you cannot see it cause it doesn't exist unless there is no signal going to that section of the screen.

I dont have any dead pixels but i do have 1 stuck pixel on my Hanns-G.
I had originally bought an AMW from Fry's and it had 6, so I returned it but chose not to get another one. I then ended up getting the one that I have now which is a Hyundai B90A and in my opinion it is very good and does not have any dead pixels.

to bad i already voted,
But went to get my dad a monitor from bestbuy, came out to 120 for a acer 19inch widescreen, two series of monitors had dead pixels on it.
Just got a Samsung 226BW from NewEgg...Box had a hole punch in the end...Bag with the LCD in it had a rip on the screen side.
Had a sinking feeling...Pulled it out of the bag and there was a smudge on the screen right where the bag was ripped.
Took some warm water with a old t-shirt and it came off...Whew !!!!
Still had me worried...Connected it up and viola !!!!!
No dead pixels...Color was spot on...Had to turn the brightness down and turned on the MagicColor...Nice monitor...Right out of the tore up box with ripped up bag right over the screen.
I guess sometimes you get lucky.

none on my dell 2005fpw, and no backlight issues either
Just got my 3rd LG Flatron 22" (model L226WTQ) and it's got one single dead pixel on it. It's actually the fourth I've had my hands on since one was sent back due to backlight problems, I don't think 1 pixel out of 7.056*10^6 is bad.

2,073,600 working pixels on my 32" Sharp (link in my sig). And that was after shipping from New York State to Mainland Japan via USPS & Army mail....I was sweating ba!!s when I pulled it out of the box for it's first inspection. Whew!
I have zero tolerance for dead pixels, its not like i would have accepted a similar problem in the days of CRT, why should they be accepted now? Technology is supposed to go forward, LCD panel manufacturers took a big step backwards when they joined up to force buyers to accept dead pixels.
On topic: Got 2x Acer 22's, no dead pixels.

Just got my first LCD, an NEC 20WMGX2 last week. It's perfect, no dead pixels, no backlight bleed. Upgraded from a 19" Sony CPD-G420S Trinitron and so far I don't miss the Sony.
this is one of my biggest fears in PC, and it been keeping me away from buying unknown brands. so far, i've had my luck with Dell's LCDs (currently have 5).

Don't know if this counts but I noticed my screen is started to tear. In the right top corner there was kinda some dead pixels then it started to move toward the center now there is 3 thick lines leading up to the corner. Kinda of sucks but I have gotten used to it now. Might pick up a new monitor but I only have 100$ and wont settle for less then a 24" haha so I can wait.

My main monitor is a Mag Innovation 19" monitor that I got off eBay for only about $90. It was a "customer return" and the seller regularly sold such merchandise. The one I got was advertised as having a dead pixel.
When it arrived, I found none (using full screen all white, black, red, green, and blue). Maybe all those shaking during shipping helped cure the dead pixel? For $90 I'm not complaining. 19" LCD usually goes for a lot more than 90.

I have one dead pixel. Showed its ugly head about twenty days after purchase.
Called Samsung. Lady said 'yes one pixel is acceptable'
and I was like... "how can X amount of defectiveness be ok?"
but yes, apparently X amount of defectiveness is ok with Samsung. I forget the number, maybe seven... but I need a 'minimum number of dead pixels' to effect a warranty claim.
I told her I though this was absurd and to take down my name and adress along with a statement as to how offended I was and that I would never buy another samsung product, which received several mmhm, mmhm, mmhm, mmhm, ok, thanks for calling samsung, click...

As much as it would tork me also... Newegg even states:
There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001309
A dead pixel would drive me bonkers.

I didn't read every single page of this thread. But i had one "stuck pixel"(bright green pixel) on my Acer monitor.
I used this little applet:
http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
While it is running, move it over your stuck pixel, then massage the area gently, using a rag or something, the stuck pixel should disappear.
It came back after about 6 months or so, i tried massaging it without the applet, that worked too. Stuck pixel free for over a year now.
No brand moniter from asian and with no dead pixels FTW :)

That depends on how LCD is made. Some displays white when all pixel are "off" and black when all pixel are "on" while others are opposite.
15" CRT... those are still made? I thought any CRT under 22" are no longer made. Even the POS displays have gone LCD long ago.
