I just finished moving everything around on my desk so I could go dual head.I seem to have a resolution problem though. My Samsung SyncMaster 215tw is running at 1680x1050 @32bit color. My Viewsonic P225f can't run higher than 1024x768 @ 32bit color. If I try to run the viewsonic above 1024x768 it starts trying to use wide screen resolutions.Has any one heard of this happening before? Is this a bug with windows when using a wide screen lcd and a crt?
Specs
AMD 64 3800X2 @ 2.34
2gigs of Muskin
WinXp Pro sp2
Geforce 7950 XFX - Samsung SyncMaster 215tw
Geforce onboard 6100 - Viewsonic P225f
Did you install the driver for the 215tw that's on Samsung.com?
I'll be watching this thread closely since I also have a 215tw, and want to use a 17" crt on the second output of my videocard.

Yup and they both have their drivers installed and are not using plug and play drivers.

Your 7950 only has one output? Have you tried plugging the CRT into that 7950 also?
I just noticed that Maviryk. Are you running dual monitors as well?

I have the Samsung on the 7950 and the crt on the onboard 6100.If I try to use both on the 7950 only the CRT will come up no matter what settings I try.So thats why I have the samsung on one card and the crt on the other.

I have the complete opposite problem.
I am running a 20' Samsung WS and a 17' crt Gateway just fine on a x850xt.
However, if I try to use a s3 virge PCI, and enable Pci priority at bootup over PCI-e, neither comes up. With PCI-E Priority, the s3 fails to start.
This worked with previous setups with 6600gts and radeon 9100s.

where are you trying to change your settings from?
If you are in the advanced tab of your video cards options, then it doesn't want to work correctly.
just right click, go into display properties. click settings tab.
What happened to me, is it acted like both monitors are suddenly one monitor. I had them labeled 1 and 2. It had 2 turned "off" and had my main monitor set up as a weird wide-screen resolution. It acted like both were one.
so just click the 2nd monitor picture ( it may be kinda grayed out, thats how it was for me ), then check the box taht says " extend my windows desktop to this monitor ". and that fixed my problem. i then could set each monitor to theior own resolutions.
I just fixed that problem i had YESTERDAY. Maybe your having the same problem as me. dunno. But worth a try.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... GET ULTRAMON! It can help you trust me, it's more popular than Jesus when it comes to dual screen setups.

it could be that you might have overlooked something... every other resolution for the monitor could/would be a widescreen resolution. I'm careful to watch the little screen representation in the window above the slider.

Well now it will give me 1280x1024 but only @ 8bit color depth.... and 1600x900 @8bit color.Grrr it doesnt make sense!

are you certain that you have the right drivers? Perhaps you should contact the video card manufacturer. Are you using a dual head card?
