I've got a %20 off cupon code for flat pannels from Dell, which way to go? What is the advantage of one over the other? Wide screens seem to be good for gaming but I don't do alot of gaming on my rig. I do plan on getting a second monitor down the road to run dual screen. How is it to run dual screen with the wide screens?
Edit: price is not realy an issue here, as the FP is only $10 more than the WFP. price is ~$360 shipped
If you watch any DVD's go with the WS

I'd recommend widescreen. I really like it for gaming. And even without, the nice wide desktop space is real nice. I've always had 1920x1200 displays. But I'd think that the 1680x1050 of the 2007WFP would let you have 2 windows open side by side.

May I ask where you got the 20% off coupon? Not for myself as I already have a 2007FPW, but many people probably want to know. :)

If you're definitely going to get a second monitor down the road and your budget would allow it, a 2007FP+2407WFP would be awesome. The reason for that pair is they are both the same vertical resolution (1200) and pair up perfectly side-by-side.
And yea what SSS said^ heh

I went to http://www.dell.com/signup about two weeks ago. I just started to get some coupon codes in the last few days. One of them was the 20% off...

Thats awesome...
All things considered... I would go with the widescreen... I do not know what monitor you have now... but if you are a gamer and your current monitor is good... then you have a widescreen for doing everytihng else PLUS its much better for watchign movies.. (I use my computer to output to my TV for watching movies... but if I had I 24" Widescreen I would ditch my TV and save money).
Even if you are not impressed with the gaming.. (and you were a gamer) you can always keep your present monitor as a gaming monitor :)
I use 2 cards in my SLI system... an x1300 for videos and a 2nd monitor and a 7600gs for gaming (old games mostly ;) ) seems to work okay for me :) x1300 supplies a 2nd monitor and a TV..
Reason I point this out.. is I have the nvidia set as the Main GPU. so all games go there... but I move the task bar over to the second monitor so all popups happen there... also anything that opens on the nVidia I move over to the ATI and then close it...from then on it opens on that monitor.
You said that gaming was not an issue.. if desktop space is an issue you can just go with the single.. but I like having the taskbar on a second screen, so then when I recieve IMs I can see it even when in a game... but thats me... others might have better options :)

Thanks Guys!
I ordered the 2007 WFP last night, Total cost + Tax was $372.78
Dell rep said that it was the rev A02, it's going back if it's not.
Not the best deal I've seen on this, but not bad. I've been looking at a new monitor so long it was time to just do something about it. I currently have a ViewSonic E90fb 19" CRT that I do plan to keep.
Now I can't wait for it to get here, I did have to order it over a long weekend!:bang head
Edit: Now I have to start working on a 939 or AM2 system...this socket A system is getting old

if you're building a new system, you should definitely go AM2. s939 is last gen and there won't be anything new coming out for it. AM2 will have new CPUs and is supposed to be compatibly with AM3 CPUs. So you will have a far longer upgrade path for almost the same $$
Thanks for that link 7dcharger. In all my travels I never stumbled upon that. (Runs to sign up for more spam:) )

Does Dell do tax with online orders? Or is it because they are everywhere?
Sorry for jack, but I'm getting a 20' too. But I'm eyeing the Samsung 205bw and it's like 300 on the egg right now. Is 19' and 20' that much different besides the obvious resolution? 1 in/160USD. Something in my head keeps asking, is this right?

since we're talking about the dell 2007wfp, anyone that has this, and games a lot. does it compare well with other monitors in its class as far as ghosting( im guessing that since it's 16ms that ghosting is not an issue).
to me it looks pretty good for the price but i haven't bought a monitor since 1998 so my experience with flat panels is limited

I have the 2007wfp and there is absolutely no ghosting at all. The 16 ms reponse time is black to white and it has a 6ms grey to grey. All the other companies list their grey to grey as the standard response time, but for some reason Dell shows the black to white.
Thats just what I have heard from alot of people.

Hope i'm not highjacking but i'm also planning on getting a 20" monitor. Was going for ViewSonic's 20.1" VX2025wm (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx2025wm/) but browsed over to Dell & Dell UltraSharp™ 2007WFP 20.1" (http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&sku=59233) with a £99 reduction including vat. This put it within £19 of the viewesonic so i thought i'd go for the dell.
Only issue i've just seen tonight is a bit disturbing BE Hardware Dell 2007WFP Review (http://www.behardware.com/articles/619-6/updated-survey-13-lcd-20-5-6-8-16-ms.html)If you think you are dreaming and you already have your hand on your wallet, here is the cold shower: The monitor we have received was equipped with a LM201W01 panel that was already found in the previous 2005FPW. It is, however, a newer version. The reference is the same but it has been improved. Afterglow is less visible and standard color quality has been corrected. Unfortunately the reaction time isn’t as good as the NEC 20WGX²
Does any one have any experience of this ??. I'm a little wary & wonder if my 1st choice is best.
thanks;)

The 2005FPW has very good color accuracy and is all around a terrific display, from what I know. I'm actually glad that they have the same panel - it guarantees the quality of the 2007.
Glad you got the WFP, OP. I picked one up for myself earlier this summer, and just ordered a second the other day for $392 w/ a 4-year warranty. Definitely worth it, as these displays are great.

- Why assume I'm going to run with a 6600GT - i'll be running what ever monitor i get with a x1900xt. That was not the issue of my post, if u bothered 2 read it, rather than my current spec. - My issue is what panel will i get if i purchase the dell 20007WFP.

How does the 20.1 BenQ compare w/ the 2007FPw? R they pretty much the same? Cuz theres a pretty big price difference.

Here's a comparison of the 2007fpw, the BenQ, and one other monitor:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1945228,00.asp
The 2007WFP is generally better on all fronts, and much better on some.
Not a whole lot of difference between the BenQ and 2007. Its about a 120 dollars price difference, the benq does not have component and usb ports on it, and i dont think its compatible with blueray/hddvd

I think the review mentions that the BenQ has inferior image quality as well, if I'm not mistaken.

Got it home last night, had to go down to UPS and pick it up at will call. They need a signature before they could release it. Very happy with it so far! Using the DVI instead of the analog connection makes a big difference on this screen. It is a Rev A02 made in Mexico. Can anyone tell me how to select the aspect ratio in the menu? I can find it in the menus but when I go to select it the cursor won’t go to that line? Is it only available in certain modes?

If it's anything like my 2005fpw, then you go into the menu -> Image Settings -> and change "Scaling"
Fill - means it will stretch all pictures to fill the screen even if it stretches out of proportion.
1:1 - keeps it pixel for pixel, so if you play at 640x480 you'll have a small box as the screen.
Aspect - The one I use the most, stretches it, but keeps it proportional.
You should be able to select all of those (unless it is ofcourse different on the 2007). Hope that helps a bit.

Found out that it is only when you run a non-native res (like playing a game at 1024x768) THEN the option will appear. I knew I was doing something wrong!

I have a question for you. How would you say the image quality compares between 1:1 and aspect? I understand why fill might be poor because it can distort the image, but does aspect look good for gaming or does it result in wierd-looking graphics because of mis-sized pixel approximations? Could you give some res examples of how aspect works out with different aspect ratios?

Damn that sux. I dont know if they will replace for one pixel, wait, yea they will nvm.
Well since all of you seem to prefer the Dell, I got a question.
What's the differences between a Dell 2005WPF and 2007WPF?
btw I got the 2005WPF A02 about a year ago and its pure AWESOME!

it's just the previous version. it has a different panel, so different timings, etc, etc.
johan851
09-11-06, 11:56 AM
I thought the panels were the same?
Also, the 2007FPW is HDCP compliant, if you care about that sort of thing. And it has a sexier base...:D

On the phone with Dell at the moment, they don't want to send me a replacement. Saying that one or two dead pixels are standard on a monitor...so after a 20 min discussion with the Tech suport guy and his manager...They are going to send me another monitor. They are saying that the new one may also have dead pixels. I guess I'll see when it comes and just take the best one.
Nice support there Dell! :argue:

You know, if you realize that this monitor has 1.76 MILLION pixels, having one or two dead shouldn't be a problem. I can't blame Dell for not wanting to exchange it - this is an expensive and complicated piece of equipment. Dell has always provided me with excellent support. Just look at the other 1,763,998 pixels.
jivetrky
09-11-06, 01:41 PM
yeah, if you bought it from somewhere else they probably wouldnt' have even taken it back. Newegg's policy on LCD's is that they don't take it back for any less than EIGHT dead pixels. Which I think is a little extreme. My LCD on my Dell laptop has 2 deal pixels right diagonal to each other, But since there are 2,304,000 pixels on this 17" panel, you don't even notice it. Even on an all white screen I usually don't even notice it. And I'm normally super anal about things like that. Luckily when I purchased my Dell 2405FPW it didn't have any dead pixels. And my sales person even made me a guarantee that if it did she'd replace it. So I think Dell has great support. And I'm sure that if i whined about my laptop they would have also replaced that. But I got a sweet overclocking 7900GS, so I didn't want to chance getting one that didn't OC as well.

Dumb question, I was just looking at Dells website and couldn't find it. Does the 2007fp have PIP/PBP like the 2007fwp? For some, it may make a difference.

Replacement is here, picked it up from UPS this morning. I will check it out when I get home tonight, this one is a Rev 02 also but made in China instead of Mexico. Hope this one gets a clean bill of health...
