I don't understand cnet.com and their review but last I've checked/seen rear projection has nothing on plasma but cnet gives this Sony a better rating than their plasma's they have tested.

well plasma has bad burn in if the transmission aint got the swirly crap. So I would imagine a rear projection getting better reviews.

The Sony listed in that link is an SXRD model which is not your average rear projection ,Ive seen a couple in person and the picture quality is nothing short of amazing.

Also have to keep in mind the Sony is a 1080P native set which means it can fully resolve a 1080i/p signal without any loss in detail.

Sony (SXRD): Much like JVC, Sony rebranded its LCoS chip, choosing to call it SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display or Silicon Crystal Reflective Display). In 2005, we gave our Editors' Choice award to Sony's KDS-R60XBR1 as the best rear-projection HDTV that we reviewed that year. Despite their high prices, Sony's SXRD sets remain extremely popular. The company has announced details on new 2006 SXRD sets, and we hope to have a review of one as soon as they're available.

I always thought DLP was inherently better.

Can you read text(like web page text) on a rear projection tv?
