View Full Version : LCD Scaling Question

I'm thinking of purchasing an LCD monitor before the summer is over and had a few questions: I plan to attatch my Xbox 360 to the monitor (getting tired of running it through a TV-tuner, a good second of lag) but from what I can tell connecting it and making to work properly will be a pain. I'm looking at a 20.1" 1600x1200 Samsung and was thinking of attatching the Xbox through the VGA (seeing as the computer will take up the DVI port, so no component unless I get a splitter) but from the looks of things all the output resolutions aren't anywhere near the resolution of the monitor (or the aspect ratio for that matter). So, if I DID get the VGA cable and set the resolution to 1280x1024 (the biggest resolution thats not widescreen) would the picture be stretched and distorted (a 5:4 picture on a 4:3 screen) or would there be a way to frame it/touch the picture at only the top and bottom? OR, would getting a DVI Splitter and running the Xbox via Component fix the issue? I've never owned/used an LCD so I'm sorry if this question is a bit noob-ish. Help is appreciated.

i have the dell 2007wfp and have my computer connected to it via dvi and the xbox 360 via vga. with this monitor the scale options are 1:1, 4:3 or fill

1:1 allows u to run the 360 at the resolution u choose without stretching or distorting. the image will be centred and will have black bars all the way round.

4:3 basically 4:3 aspect ratio. sqaure picture, black vetical bars on left and right

fill will stretch the image to fit the entire screen.

i currently use fill as the other 2 scale options make the screen very tiny. even tho the image is being stretched it still looks really good. better than my lg 17" tft.
