I'd definitely say that two monitors is the way to go for video editing (also I'm starting to use vegas and it seems the best for the price premier is a little much). An even better choice is two widescreens, but then again that's not always cheap if you still want some vertical space.
PS- are you the guy driving? I always like putting faces with names, without going through the pics thread... oh so long

Two monitors can be pretty crazy. A lot of people at work are running dual monitors. Several of them are running dual Dell 2407 monitors. That's two widescreen 24 inch LCDs.
It's a LOOOOT of real estate. It takes a while to drag the mouse from one end of one monitor, to the other end of the other monitor. And you actually move your head pretty far from side to side, comparatively.
And yeah, they do tend to be video editors, graphics artists, 3d animators, programmers and that sort.

I use a 19" LCD & 15" LCD. I do some video editing, limited photoshop, limited programming, and a fair bit of CAD. I love duals. When I was editing my friend's AP Lit video, we either had Premiere across both screens or Premiere on the 19 with audition/photoshop/whatever else on the 15. BTW, Premiere is the only way to go with video editing :) For normal use, I use my 19 like a single display with Foobar2000 & Trillain Pro running on the 15.

one 20.1" and two 17" here. the hight physically of the 17" is the same as the 20.1" and their vertical resolutions are similar 1050 vs 1024.

I use me 1 19" Widescreen (16:10 - 1440x900) and 1 17" (1280x1024) - I do no video editing or anything like that ..... I watch a movie or surf the web on one screen while using MSN on the other - its much easier

Just picked up two Samsung 204B 20.1" LCD panels. I've been using two displays for about 6 years. There's nothing like having two parking spots for applications. Keeping IM's and Email on on panel while working/surfing/etc on the other.
Most of the guys that work for me like multiple panels to separate active work from reference or communications.
Add a decent tuner like a TV Wonder 650 and the second screen is also a TV.

It really doesn't take that long to move your mouse... 1/2"?
I've always had my mouse on the fastest setting anyhow.

Used to have a compaq fs7555 parked next to an ancient gateway "crystalscan". Play CS:S on one screen and spectate with a second account on the other.
Why yes, I AM an *******.

Lol. I should take a picture of my setup at home. How it works is like this..
17" WUXGA (1900x1200) perpendicular to me on the left. Used primarily for web browsing(research, etc), music, etc. 19" WXGA (1440x900) sits at 45 degree angle, this is used for my alt accoung in games, or for more web browsing. 18" SXGA 1280x1024 is right in front of me, I use this for my primary LCD, it plays video games marm! Oh, and it has a start button. Sitting directly to my right is a 12" XGA(1024x768) which is running Adium(OS X AIM client).
Now, the sweet part ist he WUXGA and the 12" XGA are both on seperate computers. THe WUXGA is on my Dell 9400, and the 12" XGA is on my iBook. I have an application called "Synergy" running, which allows me to move my mouse from one PC to the other, by merely moving it to the right side of the screen.
Very sweet :),
I'm thinking of selling off my 19" and my 18" and buying a pair of 20" WSXGA (1680x1050)
