Considering getting a new cam, need advice

Ok, right now I've got an Canon A70 which is over 3 years old and is battered to hell. It survived 2 years in the military, 2 trips to the US, countless domestic trips and I think its time to retire the old veteran.

I'm currently very tight with money and I'm only considering this at the time being.
My first choice would be the Canon S2, I've had some experience with the older S1 model and it was the best non-SLR camera I've ever used and I highly doubt that many can compete with Canon quality.
The new S3 doesn't offer anything significant over the S2 but it costs 100$ more which isn't a good deal.
Next we have the Fuji 5620/5600I, this baby costs 100$ less here in Israel and boasts similar features to the Canon model. There are two problems with this camera as far as I'm concerned:
A) I've got no XD memory cards on hand so thats an additional charge.
B) I'm not 100% confident in Fuji quality, both picture wise and camera quality wise.

I could probably pick up an XD card from the forums for around 20-25$ shipped.

Does anyone have any experience with both models and can provide viable advice? Even if you have experience with either I would be glad to hear what you have to say.

One more thing, does anyone know if the Fuji accepts filters?

Or if you've been happy with your A70 then you could look at a new A series, instead of jumping up to the S series.

You won't fit an S series into the same pocket as an A series, if that makes any difference.

And a new bump.

Well I am HIGHLY irritated at Fuji right now and will NOT recommend them due to the support they DONT offer. (bought at A series that died within two months, I have called and emailed Fuji a couple of different times with NO reply).

I am looking at the Canon S2 as well.
