hi everybody, Ive just upgraded alot of my hardware and guess what? lucky me! my mom decided she didnt like the power consumption and lousy picture of my old CRT, so she want to buy me a nice clear LCD to save my eyes.

so help keep my momma happy and help me out with this cuz theres no way I eat enough carrots to offset the strain from this piece of junk.

so Ive been looking arround and from what I have read Ive come up with a couple of points.

1. dont pay attention to response time. no standard testing procedure.

2. 15in LCDs are a waste of money. 17s are good for budget. and 19s start to look pretty good. (just uneducated oppinions)

3. the base is important. due to LCDs lousy viewing angle multiple adjustments are prefered.

4. dead pixels suck monkey balls. MUST buy from seller with good return policy.

right. now that thats out of the way, my plan goes like this:

1. buy a middle of the road 17-19in LCD. mostly used for text and video, some gameing.

2. wait 1-2 years.

3. find $

4. get a nice large widescreen. Ill run it with the other standard LCD Im going to buy.

so this plan is set up to get me max bang for buck. its long term I know but I think it will net me a nice result. current prices of larger monitors seem a little steep to me. maybe I havent found the right price. my video card will have DVI and HDTV/S-video outputs.

I dont know much about this stuff but heres what Ive been looking at.

check out the Consensus Report

I had looked at other reviews but this looks to be pretty comprehensive.

what do you guys think? about the choices in the review and my plan.

well 19" widescreens (and normal aspect) are poor choices IMO because 1440x900 is a small resolution (and 1280x1024 is the same res 17" runs for the 5:4 aspect LCD's....so no gain except increase in cost). I recommend getting a 20" widescreen.
Now, you have a good number of 20" widescreen choices, gateway, dell, viewsonic, sceptre, benq, and some others.
I may have a biased opinion but I think the 2007FPW is the best option. it's 375 right now, but if it ships with any problems, backlighting, dead/stuck pixel, whatever, you can return it and get another free of charge and shipping costs. It also has a lot of other inputs which could be nice if you want to plug in stuff like DVD players, consoles, or whatever.

I might decide to use 3 monitors in a surround display settup. cost will be a large factor in this and quality too. 3 cheep displays would just make me unhappy. so that calls for smaller screens and slim bezels. any suggestions?

I have 2 2001's and one 2405, you could do that or 1707fp's and 2007fpw which would be much cheaper.

hey I like your setup and I like your choices Im thinking about getting a 2007wfp and waiting for prices to drop. at that point who knows? I may be able to upgrade and get something humongous.

for the price the 2007wfp looks like it beats everything out there.
