considering costs are going down big time and I've got maximum $500 to spend, will I be able to use LCD TV as monitor for computer?
Especially this model, its selling for Under $500

what are the major backdraws for doing this, right now I have 21" CRT monitor. I'm a gamer and watch lots of images will this bring down response time big time, will I get very bad reult for doing this?

It's resolution is only 1366 x 768 ....so thats the max your PC would display. That's not real high (would basically look like 1024x768 only widescreen)
And as far as response time, the tigerdirect page says it has 8ms response time...so it should work ok for gaming...but if it was me, I'd pass because of that low res.
Are you looking for a monitor AND a TV or were you just looking for a monitor that was larger?
Biggest you'll probably get with a computer LCD for $500 is a 20.1"
And that'll be bigger than your CRT....and WAY lighter and smaller!
Here's a great monitor/price:
20.1" Samsung 204B @ Newegg $384.06 with shipping (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001226)

My uncle uses a 52" LCD TV for his monitor at home. It is widescreen and runs at 1368 X 760. In my honest opinion, I don't like the way that it looks. Games and other applications become very grainy. I played some basic games and ran some applications and at the end of it all I wanted to jab my eyes out.
Right now, I am using the Dell 30" LCD monitor. Due to not having a good enough video card, which I am resolving, I cannot run this baby at high resolutions. I am stuck at 1280 x 800. I truly HATE this resolution, even though the screen is badass. So....from experience pass on the TV LCD.
I would recommend buying a monitor capable of 1600 X 1200 or better if the coin is available. Just my 2 cents.....

On a screen that big, with that resolution, the pixels would be ENORMOUS! No wonder it looks awful. I think jivetrky has the best route for ya.
I have research this topic before since I was looking at a good screen for the PS3 but I also think in using it with the computer. Right now if I were u I would stay with the monitor u have since CRTs are way better than LCD but that is my opinion. However if u want a bigger screen try going for a scren that u can use in ur room to watch TV also, this way u kill 2 birds from a shot.
Search for a TV that has VGA or even better, one that have DVI.
Search for one that has a native or sometimes called recomended res. of 1600x1200, if not, that at least can dysplay it.
Also, this is optional, the newer video cards and drivers let u put HD signals so u may want to consider this as I said b4, u kill 3 birds with one shot. ;]

You could get a Dell 2001FPW. They have D-Sub/DVI-D/S-Video/Composite
Connectors
So you could then use a SAT receiver or VCR for TV viewing and still have the PC hooked to it. You can actually do side by side viewing or picture in picture also! (at least my 2405FPW does)
the 2001FPW is like $360 or so
Yeah Ditto what jivetrky says.
Use a PC monitor like the 2405 as a tv it works better that way. Its cheaper as long as you have something to send it a signal(Tivo, satellite ect)
