so my bdays comin up and my mom works for hp. so here's the options:
21inches (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=storefronts&landing=displays&category=displays&orderflow=1&product_code=P8727AA%23ABA&catLevel=1) or 24inches? (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-64283-444767-72270-444767-1844961.html)
i've been thinking the 24incher all the way just caust it's a beast and it doesn't have speakers on it. however, i was just looking at a site online w/ a person sitting at the 24incher. it looked huge! now i've got to make sure this monitor, as well as a 17in lcd, can fit on a standard desk. Anyone think the 24inchers gonna be too big?

I currently have a 24incher and I'm not sure I could go back, I love it completely! ahem... and I like my big monitor too :D
It fits on my desk fine (and it isn't that huge), though with a 17" as well, things would probably be a bit cramped. Don't bother with integrated speakers, they almost always blow, the only good ones which I have ever seen are on the high end Toshiba Quosimo laptops.

yeah i think i'm gonna say screw that 21incher w/ the speakers. 24inches will be nice just gotta make sure i have the room for it.

Who cares about the speakers, they'll only be a couple of watts anyway and you're bound to have better speaker's if you're considering this sort of monitor anyway!
I maintain Dell has the best fully featured tft's to date, with viewsonic providing the next best amount of features, with arguably the best quality.

Monitors with speakers ..... make baby jesus cry. Usually you would want to replace them anyways, as one of the previous posters had stated.
24" man ftw.....enjoy!

Big, yes. Too big? No way. And speakers on the monitor are a con, not a pro. Choice u have is a no-brainer.

I think the 24 should fit on a standard desk with a 17. I have the 2005FPW and its not wide enough for me to multitask effectively (need just a bit more space to have two windows side by side). That HP uses the same resolution, so pixels will be bigger when compared to a 20" WS of that resolution (like the 2005FPW).
I'd go 24

Are u sure about the same resolution? That would be pretty bad on a 24" monitor and all the info I saw on HP 23/24" monitors indicated 1920x1200. 1680x1050 on a 24" would be quite ugly with that 0.3+ dot.

I meant the HP 21" uses the same resolution as the 20" Dell 2005FPW and most other 20" LCDs. So for while you'd get the same number of pixels, they'd be bigger when compared to the popular Dell.
It doesnt make that much of a difference and it becomes moot when you consider notebook LCDs where a 17" can have a 1680x1050 resolution...
go with the 24", i have a dell 2405FPW and a dell 2001FP and they both fit just fine on my small desk.

check out the footer on each page. 21 inch monitor (http://www.computerdisplays.co.uk/21%20inch.htm) has one year parts and labour, whereas the 24 has 3 years parts, labour and on site warranty. Take the 24 inch. If it blows, you're covered. Get an extended warranty for the 21 inch lcd and it'll work out the same price (i know it's not your cash) as the 24 inch. Resolution of the 24 inch may be higher, but the rest of the specs are just about the same, all with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Hmm very nice.

Too big? No way, it's not possible.
I had a 17" crt, too small, got a 19" crt, liked it, got a 19" LCD(19" viewable) liked it even more, now I have a 24" and I want a 30" so........ no,it's not too big.

I have been using 32" and 37" HDTV's as my computer displays for awhile now and I have gone back to my 17" CRT because they are to big and my eyes started hurting after playing BF2 for more then 1hr.
I can't speak for 24", but my suggestion would be if you are going to get it then sit away from it as far as possible.
