Awesome. Post the revision number that should be labelled on the back on the monitor and if you can, post all details about BIOS and stuff.

And most importantly, lets us know if it's solvedyour problems! Banding right?

Well I got mine dropped off from fedex today, the gradient problem is fixed as far as I can tell. So that is good.

The Rev is A02, its on the back of the monitor as well as the box!

BUT!!!!!!!!! My new 2007FPW Rev A02 has 3 dead pixels!

I've posted on the Dell forums waiting to see what can be done for me.

My 2007FPW Rev A00, with the banding issue has no dead pixels!

It really ticks me off to have one issue fixed and now have another presented to me!

What would you do in my situation?

It's kind of funny, I was sure I could find this information via software. What made it less obvious is that I had to tape my new LCD to my desk, so seeing that label with the tiny print escaped me.
My cat spends 99% of her time on top of my 21" CRT, she has already tried to get on top of this LCD's top to protest, the thing is, I put the 21" CRT on another desk, hooked up to an external tv box so it would still be warm. Nope, she's annoyed and she will sleep on top of the LCD if it kills her, or destroys the LCD. Tomorrow I will get a permanent solution at the hardware store that is more eye appealing, but until then, it will be taped to my desk. http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/cat.gif

I solved the litter box issues years ago http://www.littermaid.com/images_wms/LME9000-smforweb.jpghttp://www.littermaid.com/images_wms/LMT100_sm.jpghttp://www.aircleaners.com/images/2xp.jpg

And each one has a powerful air cleaner/ionizer next to them, at my place when you walk into the door you don't know I have a couple cats, that is until my cat that thinks he's a dog comes after you. Luckily he likes me, but all friends and relative when they come to visit me in Florida, all stay in hotels, this cat is a Godsend

I've run many tests and so far so good. No apparent banding and no dead pixels.

I didn't say she has actually managed to stay on top of the LCD, I said she has tried a dozen times to get on top of it to sleep. (in fact I had a 19" LCD last year for one hour, I had to get rid of that as well because she was hell bent on getting on top of that as well)
Just moments ago after staring at me for two days straight, she reluctantly went on top of her 21" CRT monitor I moved 3 feet to another desk in my office. What can I say, for years this was her monitor, not mine....:p

PS, for those of you thinking its dumb to place a towel on top of a hot CRT blocking the air escaping, what you don't see is a customized 120mm fan placed inside the monitor, cooling it off. In fact it runs cooler with the towel on top with the fan, than it ran without the towel and no fan. I had a temp probe inside as well when I modified this CRT to make it comfortable for the cat, what a mistake that was, now my LCD is a target ;)

Well Dell is replaceing my replacement 2007FPW Rev A02. The usb on side of the monitor pushes all teh way in and hits the screen from what I can tell, there is also 2 rattleing sound inside the monitor, it was officially damaged in shipping. Thank god I mad the Fedex guy mark it on his check sheet!

D94...didnt know you were up in the DELL threads, whats your sn there?.

my A00 had no dead pixels and minor banding.
my new A02 has ONE dead pixel (currently being hammered by dead pixel buddy)
and im unsure of the banding....check pics below and help me figure it out. Its definately less severe than in A00 though.

funny thing is, my A02 is made in Mexico (I remember ChrisM saying that China was doing the flashing)

D94...was your VGA cable hooked up when you opened the box?

Also used Monitor Testor http://www.majorgeeks.com/Monitor_Tester_d386.html

and Nokia Tester (http://freepctech.com/rode/004.shtml)

aright.. just got home, got it setup
not a single scratch or dead pixel on it
working great, mines a revision a02 from mexico aswell
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/9786/dscf1464large7en.jpg
now the only question is, what to do with my 2005fpw..
(cant do triple setup yet cuz my 7600gs aint here yet)

so since i want to keep my old monitor since bleeding is practically not there, will dell just re-charge me the original order price of my last monitor? :D

Im in the exact same situation as you except that my replacement came with the gift of a dead pixel !
If I do not return the old monitor (I am planning on returning it) what would be the charge?

Also...what do you guys think of the gradients in my pics? does that look like normal gradients for a HQ LCD?

Please help me out...im unsure if this is actually fixed....

I just got mine, revision A00 :( I found no dead pixels with all the tests that Sam linked me to. However, I still can't figure out how to do a banding test.

Also, the colors look so washed out compared to my 2001fp (both connected DVI, both @ native res). I mean, the text doesn't look as sharp, etc. I looked in display properties and windows recognizes it as a 2007fpw.

dreIU
06-15-06, 08:09 PM
and what does "binding" mean?? I just ran Gradlin 0.2-f, and my screen looks exactly the same as Senater_Cache

Senater_Cache
06-15-06, 08:30 PM
dreIU...ist called "banding". and it is a screen inability to display smooth gradients (instead of smooth they are seperated into blocks of color and are disproportionate.)

Use the program I linked above to check your screen.

If you want to see a great example of banding, run the program I linked, then switch your windows desktop to 16-bit (instead of 32) and run the program again. viola...banding.

Thanks Senater. I am just overwhelmed by the fact that there are no dead pixels. Maybe I'm just going crazy, but now my eyes seemed to have adjusted to the panel of the 2007fpw  Doesn't the 2001fp ues an 8bit (or 6bit) panel, whereas the 2007fow uses a higher? Maybe that's the difference I'm noticing.

Another not so good part, I can't seem to play NHL 2006 in widescreen resolution :( I'm sure there's a file I have to edit, but it's a pita.

Maybe I just don't get it but wouldn't this picture (PrintScreen?) look like crap on a crappy monitor and perfect on great monitor no matter what it actually looks like on yours? I.e. it looks fine on my 2407 and 2005 and severely banded on A00 2007.

The yellow instructional paper that came in the replacemt box along the airbill has some info.
They will send an invoice within 5 days of receipt. You have 5 days to return (ship) the old monitor, it says this on the yellow paper. it also says that if not shipped or recieved the invoice will not be credited but will be charged...

On the Del forum I heard someone say their invoie for the 2007wfp was $250 !
This is of course unvalidated.

I read that thread as well, the members there were forming a lynch mob if he didn't return it. If the invoice was in fact $250, I would keep it, as it is neither dishonest nor enethical to do so. But with that said, I would call Dell and make sure there are no strings attached to doing so.

Hooked up my 2007 A02 (Mexico) replacements. Color banding has been visibly reduced (on par with 2405/2005 and my older Viewsonics) so that is a good thing. Unfortunately one of them has a dead green subpixel which is frankly just as if not more annoying. ****.

I'm not surprised. Dell reps ARE clueless and dealing with them is a f**** nightmare. The only course of action I can suggest is to PM that dude ChrisM on Dell boards (he posted instructions in one of the forums). That's what I did and my new monitors, with pre-paid return for old ones, just showed up unannounced few days ago. Check this forum for discussion on the banding issue a while back, there should be a direct link to that message if I recall.

I haven't had anything back in terms of confirmation, acknowledgement or anything which was a bit unnerving, but then monitors just showed up so I assume, sending that PM is sufficient to initiate quick exchange w/o going thru bazillion hoops with Dell support.

I see... I read elsewhere on the Dell forums that others also didn't get confirmation and one day the monitor just showed up. I can live with it for 3 more weeks, thanks for your help!

Nice.... where exactly does one check this? Is it under account infor (or something along those lines)? I am supposed to get my replacement tomorrow, and if it's just that much, I'm just going to keep it as well.

btw, how are they charging you for this? I hope they don't keep the CC info on file, do they?

wait hang on :o You bought a 2007fpw, it was rev a00. Dell sent you a rev A02 in exchange. You end up keeping the original a00 and return the a02? So you originally paid 249 for the rev a00?

Alright... I just went home for lunch and saw that my replacement came in. And what do you know? It's a rev A00. Not only that but I mounted it right next to my original 2007fpw and it is nowhere near as bright plus the banding is WAAAY more nitceable. On the box, it says that it's made in Mexico, and on my original box it says it's made in China.

I am absolutely speechless. How do I even handle this situation??

EDIT: and there is absolutely no "return bill" in the box. I know there is usually this slip, with a sticker that you place outside of the box, then you call 1-800-AIRBORNE and they come pick it up. Absolutely nothing.

That's not the only thing my friend d94 has maxed out, he's maxed out his wallet with all the widescreens he has in his room. I'm guessing he will sell that fuzzy orange chair (http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/3122/dscf1486large9wf.jpg) before he parts with any of his LCD's :p

Need a few comments guys and please be honest here.

I'm slightly concerned about the stated 16ms response time.

Every google link i can find says that it's not a problem and that games are fine etc etc...But from actual users, what is the response time like? Is it noticeable in movies, games? Bear in mind i'll be coming from a 1280x800 laptop screen from which i've never noticed ghosting in any games and watch all my movie and tv without knowing any different. (I have done that ghosting test with the red square and it appears my current panel is disgustingly bad...but het it's a laptop).

Is there a way of finding out what response time the panel i'm using is? Can anyone post the a screenshot of the famous 'I need more socks' test on this monitor?

I'm willing to bet you will find at least $25.97 in nickels, Dimes and quarters and a half eaten Slim Jim in the cushion of that yellow chair.

i've a dell fp19something something.

it has 20ms. and well... ghosting is an understatement.

let's say that anything involving other than black on black you can cleary see ghosting.

to the point where games are tiring and graphical detail is lost.

following the mouse pointer on screen while moving, you get a doubling in size with the ghosting.

so that's with 20 ms. with gaming or video. i wouldn't go higher than 8ms. (opinion. havent tried it)

my next gaming lcd will be a viewsonic at 2ms.

Nice score, I can't see how any of that screen real estate is usable being so far away from the center pod. What you really need is a bigger desk and a proper chair.

According to my unscientific tests the 2005fpw lags about 15-20 ms behind a crt. the 2007 uses the same panel, (but as d94 pointed out obviously different backlights). That 20 ms rated is probably more like 30-40 ms latency.

The funny thing is I ping 9-11 ms to my clans gameserver. My flatscreen has more latency than my internet connection. who would have ever thought. I honestly never use my second screen. I should probably sell it, $325 is pretty much what I paid for it.

I was finally talked into getting a replacement for my A00, a buddy came over and he was convinced there was slight banding and when I say slight, I mean slight. I didn't go through that Dell dude(Chris) at the Dell forums
But I have to say Dell rocks.

They Fedex overnighted me a new A02 (Mexico), No dead pixels, No banding at all. Dell even called me on July 3 and on July 4th to make sure I was happy. There was no invoice in the box so when Dell called on July 5th, I told them they can pick up the monitor. 2 Hours later DHL showed up at my door. 2 hours after that, Dell again called and asked again if I was satisfied with the A02.
Maybe they gave me white glove treatment because I ordered it through Dell Small Business. This was my first Dell purchase in a long time, and was treated right.

PS. The new monitor is crisper, and is slightly better than the A00. So if you got a A00, make sure you're 100% satisfied, because Dell seems to be concerned that anyone that got an A00 is unhappy, they will get you a A02 with no fuss nor muss.

ive been on chrisM's waiting list for more than a month now. Im beginning to think if i ever will get a replacement monitor.

i am past the dell 21 day return window, so I dont know if calling would be a good idea. Ive checked on the dell forums and peoplewho have requested replacements have gotten A00's in return. I dont want to deal with a bunch of hassle even more than I already have.

Hopefully they send me a monitor this year.

Pick up the phone and call DELL, you don't need Chris. I completely went around him and they even Fedex overnighted it to me.

OT: Are you guys changing settings on this panel/ATI CCC for these monitors? I made some slight adjustments, but i'm wondering if i'm getting the clearest picture possible? It looked pretty good out of box, and i'm still fairly new to LCD's.
