I just noticed my Dell 2005FPW Rev A02 which is only a little over half a year old leaving temporary imprints on the desktop of windows I had open and minimized. I'm using the DVI connection hooked up to a 7800 GS. What could be at fault? Any similar experiences out there?

I've noticed this tendency with 2005s, but not nearly as severe as you are describing. My ~8 month old 2005 and my friend's ~2 month old unit both display a "ghost" at the bottom of the screen that corresponds to the taskbar. Neither of ours shows any other problems, and do not show previously opened windows, et al.

My roomate from college had his recyling bin in the lower right corner and it became etched in the screen, he contacted dell and got a replacement monitor.

If you're talking about a "burned-in" image like the old CRTs used to get. I had that happen to my 2005fpw when some tv tuner software shutoff my power management and screen saver without even prompting. I had a webpage open for like 12 hours on the screen and it got burned in. I read some where to change my background to pure white and run a pure white screen saver. I had the pure white screen saver run for a few hours, and let it be my default screen saver for a few days afterwards and its 100% better now. may need to do it longer depending on how long ur image has burned in.

I guess I forgot to leave out a detail in my problem description. The temporary imprint is subtle, but noticeable if you are the one sitting in front of the screen. If you were more than a few feet away, you wouldn't see it. If I had my browser window open right now and minimized it after a little while, the white URL bar would be most noticeable in the imprint. Desktop icons and such don't seem to be a problem.

If the monitor needs to be replaced, I'm worried that I'll get a used 2005 or possibly one of the newer models that I've heard have some problems?

yeah LCD's burn in. they call it "image persistance" I did not know it too till it happened to me. It sounds like your monitor is defective, go ahead and call Dell, good luck dealing with those dude's from india, man sometimes they're so cocky and borederline rude.
