Just a bit curious whether or not laptop monitors can cause damage to the human eyes.

Laptops should be easier on your eyes b/c it's LCD... I don't know if there is any documented proof of permanent eye damage caused by computer monitor, however, I suffer from severely dry eyes and I can't handle monitors for extended periods of time. Gets down right painful if I don't watch it, no pun intended.

hmmm not sure....i am pretty sure that I have heard that CRT's can cause issues (not usually permanent problems, just strain and other things...but I haven't ever heard of LCDs causing problems...and i can say from personal experience that my LCD has never caused any irritation that my old CRT did.

Never stare at a screen in a pitch black room. You need at least some other light source.

Not as long as you use proper saftey measures.

Yes, always "wrap it up" when using a computer, you don't want to get a virus!

My CRT doesnt really bother me too much in the dark. I do it all the time although I can say that with the lights on it is a bit more comfortable. :D

Depends, do you use your laptop in the dark?

Flourescent lights, watching a bright screen in a dark room, slow refresh rates all mess with your eyesight. I always have an incandescent lamp nearby for some "clean" light.

If you use a soft light source and good refresh rate I don't think a monitor will strain your eyes much more then reading a book all day or watching TV.
