well not only pictures but font looks real odd. like when i look at smaller pictures they look as if somone converted file types using paint and saved it maybe from like bmp to jpg. around corners and stuff its kinda scratchy looking. and then with my thinner fonts like buddy info on aim it looks as if the background is protruding into the letter. i have an acer AL2016W which is 20" widescreen, 600:1, 8ms, 300 cd/m2. and it seems as though everything isnt as clear as it should be. keep in mind this is my first LCD. I went from a crappy IBM 17" from 1998 and im just used to the way it looks. also with like some colors it looks as if the monitor is somewhat wet like on a CRT. not the whole rainbow thing but like when you wipe it off and it has alot of different colored pixels yet barely noticeable. what do yall think the problem is. oh ya and i have clear type which kinda of makes letters bolder and easier to read. and colors do not blend well. say i have to greens blending together it looks bad. like with thise background.

once they start blending it looks kinda cheap or poorly done. but i know its a good pic because it was fine on my CRT.

For the text, make sure that the DPI settings is set to 96 (Normal size). In case you dont know where that setting is, its in display properties-> settings-> advanced. Sometimes windows will set it to 120 if a high resolution is detected. Get rid of clear type as well. Its really only useful for high resolution laptop displays.
For the color, I think you are just seeing the downside to using an LCD. What you are going to have to do is mess with your color profile until things look right. There is also some software out that will help calibrate the color profile for you. Just do a google search for "lcd calibration" and Im sure you will find a free version somewhere.
Other than that, the screenshot looks pretty good. LCDs just require a bit more tweaking to get them looking their best.

That looks like 1680*1050, but if it isn't change it to that. Native resolution is the only way to go for windows.

Up the DPI to 105/110 and enable Cleartype.

first off thanks for the help, i was using 96DPI before, and without cleartype it was very hard to read and made me strain my eyes. in a little while im going to try the calibration thing. the res is 1680x1050 so no worries there. and i changed the DPI to 105 and i didnt notice a difference except for font was a bit more bold. well im going to calibrate now so thanks for all the help. also what would be the cause of pictures having rough edges around them. anyways off to callibrate
also i just realized i didnt download the driver its just using windows plug and play driver. would this make a difference
i couldnt find an automatic calibrater so im out of luck there. but i did download the driver. it came with 3 files Acer20(security catalog), AL2016W(ICC Profile), and AL2016W(setup info file). now i need to know what to do with these three files. i already added the icc profile under display properties-> settings->advanced-> color management. but it didnt change a darn thing
ok i just went to color correction and loaded the one for my monitor and made it real dark and looked like crap so im stuck now
