Hi guys. Widescreen LCD's are rare here in South Africa, but there are two currently at a good price and wondering which you guys would pick.
1. Viewsonic VA1912W
2. Fujitsu Siemens W19-1 (available primarily in Europe IIRC)
Specs are virtually identical: 1440x990, D-Sub and DVI, 8ms, 500:1, 300 nits brightness, both with 3 year warranty. Pricing is also pretty much the same.
There are NO OTHERS available here so please try not suggest others :santa: The only other one is the Acer, but that has no DVI so is not an option anyway.
Cheers,
X
Well 20" widescreen LCDs seem to be the hot size right now, but if you mean there's absolutely no other widescreen LCDs available to you then go with the ViewSonic. They've always been a top of the line company and most people are very happy with their products. If you can get a 20" widescreen though, then I'd go for one of those.

Acer's 19" widescreen is now available with DVI on it too, and if its anything like the non-dvi one, get it, if its cheaper, i love mine (didnt worry about dvi, doesnt bother me)

Both have the same spec's, probably using the same CMO panel. Get whichever one you think is better looking. Viewsonic has built in speakers, not that you would use them, right?
Actually I like the idea of built in speakers, but I'd only use them as secondary with my Creatives. It's not like the speakers would win or lose and LCD though.

Hi guys. The only 20" widescreen available is the Viewsonic VX2025, but to be honest I simply cannot afford it. Here it is about 40% more than the 19" screens.
Hainer - the Acer screens here have no DVI, including the new shipment which arrived this week. Unfortunately as is often the case, excess global stock ends up here so if DVI was only recently added it would take a good 6 months to get here. And in any case the Acer is the same price as the others.
IMO the Fujitsu looks the best, as it has speakers too but they are behind the panel, keeping the wide aspect ratio of the monitor as a whole; whereas the Viewsonic has the speakers at the bottom. Also, locally the Viewsonic is only available in silver (I would have preferred black :) ).
One of the reasons I am leaning toward the Fujitsu Siemens is that they have a large presence here with very good support. Viewsonic is imported by a single, small distributor so support and lead-times are questionable.
