Hey guys, I'm lookin at finally getting into an LCD and I want to do it with a fair bang and I need to replace my 9 year old Acer CRT. I've been using LCD's for the past couple years at college and at work and i'm getting used to them. What I am after is a 20" widescreen LCD with a low pixel pitch, sharp, clear picture, rich colours, DVI and preferably under $450 cdn. I'm primarily going to be using it for games and some movie watching so a fast response time is necessary.
Two models I have looked at are the BenQ FP202W and the Viewsonic VX2025WM. The BenQ is a fair amount cheaper which makes me wonder about overall quality. Both look like decent models though.
Has anyone used one of these before and can tell me of it's qualities/drawbacks?
Or if anyone has any other models worth mentioning please do!

How are the colors on the Viewsonic? Its possible that in the (maybe not so near) future I'll be buying an LCD, but all of the ones I've used have very poor color compared to my P275.

I went and picked up an LG203WT today to see if i really want a this big of an LCD.
This model is pretty good from what I have seen and read in reviews and it cost about as much as the Viewsonic. The color is much better than the Samsung 17" I use at work, but the screen is so big! I guess I need to get used to it (and I think i need to push the monitor further back on my desk).

i'm curious how the ghosting is on a 8ms. i have a 20 ms right now and it horrible.
i was considering the fp202 myself but after realising all i do on this comp is play games i'm leaning towards the 19viewsonic at 2ms.
I'm also looking into getting a 20" widescreen LCD right now. The only thing that scares me right now is that my games wont be supported by the 16:10 aspect ratio. But I don't really want to pay this much for a 20" LCD and only have a native res of 1400x1050. I'd like to get a normal 20" with a native res of 1600x1200, but those are all so much higher in price.
Well anyways, as I was looking at the WS LCDs, I came to the same conclusion as JungleBizz even before reading this thread. It came down to that BenQ and that Viewsonic. I am also looking at some of the Dell widescreens on ebay. I'm guessing that a Dell 2005FPW would outdo the BenqQ or the ViewSonic, that is if I can get one for about the same price, agree?
But if I can get a 1600x1200 for about $300 do you think I should? Or is the World of Widescreen better anyway?

I'm in the same boat - I've tried to play games on my wife's 8ms VA912b and it's friggin' horrible. Smearing and ghosting up the arse - DVI and VGA. I too am leaning towards the VX922, I just wish VS made a 20.1 4x3 or 20.1WS in 2ms. I would be looking at it right now as I'm typing for sure.

After a couple days gaming on the LG203WT, I can say that the monitor has no ghosting that I can tell, but I did notice a bit of banding in a couple games when I switched to the DVI-D cable, nothing that is overly bothersome though. I have read many reviews that show this monitor has a better output on the VGA that comes with it than with a DVI cable.
Still, most reviews I have read have put this monitor basically in second place behind the NEC 20WMGX2, but the NEC runs about $300 more.
Oh, and jjv687, the native res of a 20.1" wide is 1680 x 1050, not 1400.

im also in this boat. upgrading from a 17" crt. i like the price of the ben-q and the specs are better than the 2005fpw.
i just dont know what to do, and round here noone stocks any of them for me to have a look at so i cant check it first. anyone fancy posting up some footage of the monitors? should look good enough if you have a decent camera....

i love my 2025xm - right now i have it on VGA and it looks as great as DVI did!! (my x700 died)
i have seen the 2025 compared next to the $800 NEC one out there , and this being an 8bit panel has incredible color accuracy

I know, I was talking about the non-widescreen LCDs. I was saying that it's not really worth it to get a non-widescreen 20" unless you can get one with a native res of 1600x1200 since the non-wides are just 1400x1050. I still don't know which I'd rather have though. A normal 1600x1200 20" or a wide 1680x1050 20".

I bought a BenQ FF202W last week from Newegg... no dead pixels, easy to setup, beautiful image. Widescreen is absolutely awesome.
For the price ($299.99 + free shipping) it can't be beat.
I play WoW and Eve Online on it and ghosting is very minimal. I only see it when I'm looking for it.
Hope this helps.

Well after a few more days of gaming on the LG, I think I'm getting used to the size and the added viewing area.
I have mostly been playing WoW on it, and the added space is great when you are in a busy raid or doing PvP.
Yes, I do notice the darkness at the top of the screen when I slouch in my chair, but it doesn't bother me. I have always had my brightness turned down a lot, even on my CRT.
I haven't even bothered switching back to vga to test if there's less banding, because the little bit that I have seen doesn't spoil my gaming experience and the picture seems extra sharp using the DVI cable.
One thing I am considering doing is picking up a TV Tuner so I can watch TV on this monitor!
