You can try building your own projector out of an overhead projector and and a strong LCD screen's internals. I think you can find a tutorial on Tom's Hardware. You can do it for pretty darn cheap too, much cheaper than most decent compact projectors.

It would look as good as whatever LCD you decided to use with it... but the actual unit might not be so pretty. :p

well it would really look as good as what projector you get and also they usually recommend <17 inch screens so the resolution would be small and most of those screens suck for gaming

After seeing Tom's guide years ago I went on a adventure looking for DIY projectors. I finally settled at a forum called www.lumenlab.com. Since I was a diy'er , computers, water cooling, then finally phase changing. I figured I could handle it.

To make a long story short I'll fast forward to the present. I've built as well as thousands of others high quality DIY projectors. My present projector runs 1280x1024 with a 104" picture. For plain TV I run a viewsonic n6 tv box that allows component inputs and composite as well as vga. I also run a computer for movies and surfing the web.

I don't have any pics of my latest projector, but it resulted in the building of a home theater in my basement. I just put the floor in and have to put things back together so bare with me. In a day or two and I'll be more than happy to post some pics. I will not only post pics of the quality of the projection but also the quality of the case and how it looks, in the basement. I think you will be very pleasently suprised and also impressed on what you can build, depending on how creative you are.

Just a idea of total cost is approx $600 using all new parts and making it look like something. The bright side of it is I can replaced the bulb for roughly $50. To replace the bulb on a manufactured one will cost between $150-$250 depending on the qualtiy of bulb you want to purchase.

Like I said I will have some pics for you in a day or two. Laterz Just shoot

If you don't have the space and time to build your own, get the panasonic ae-700 or ae-900. The sanyo z- series is good (z-3 and z-4 are the latest).
