I purchased a Viewsonic N1700w recently from Ebay. I got a AC adapter compatible with this model. I fired it up, and I get maybe a second of a proper, lit image and then the screen goes black. Images would display when I switched inputs or when I turned the power on/off. My experience and some research told me that it was probably the inverter.
I purchased an inverter for this monitor, installed it, and I'm still having these problems!

I have the same problems with DVI and with D-sub, I first tried it with my X1800XL through DVI and D-sub, then moved it to my 5900XT w/D-sub. Same problem although the picture looked like ass on the 5900XT, like the signal was dirty or something.
I have installed the viewsonic drivers and checked the resolutions and refresh rates. The monitor guts looked good, no loose parts, all of the connectors looked good, no scorch marks or burnt/melted wires.

Was I wrong in thinking that it was the inverter? Usually if there is a backlight problem, there won't be any light or only some of the screen will be lit properly.

Any suggestions? This **** is driving me crazy!
