Hey everyone,

I am doing a show at my school and we are using a digital projector to display videos on a big screen. The input on the projector is a VGA one (like most CRT monitors). I have aquired 40 feet worth of that VGA wire, the one with all the pins like on CRT monitors, that I will be extending from where the projector is to where my laptop will be sitting and I will be plugging it into my laptops video card.

I wanted to know if its ok to extend a VGA wire like that so long, I know they are sold at the 10foot stage but 40 feet? Will it be ok?

Please reply ASAP, the show is on friday, dress rehersale is tomorrow.

Thanks

depends on the type of cable. You can test the cable before no? Though the device you test on may sync and the projector wont. They make repeaters for situations like this.

And its better if its just one cable, not multiple cables.

i say try it...what do you have to lose besides time, energy, and wire?

Whats a repeater? I dont really have time to get anything else.

I will have the wires tomorow and I will test it, but if it doesnt work then I dont have much time to try something else.

I cant use only one wire, I have no way of getting a 40foot VGS wire, I am ataching 4 10 foot ones.

What do you mean one will sync and one wont?

Its like 13 dollars for 50FT of that ****.But its too late to order ot now.

It doesnt matter what the price is because I'm not paying for it.

I use a 25ft VGA cable in my car and there's no problem what so ever, I'd think a 40ft would be OK. If it's low quality it may pick up some interference, especially if there are power cords in parallel.

for 29.99per 10 feet I would hope those are good quality. I also feared interference becuase I will have a load of stuff going on in there (electrically) but I think it will be fine.

I believe a repeater just sits on your line and does as the name suggests, repeats the signal and boosts it using an external electrical source, similar concept to the wifi range expanders that linksys makes if you've ever seen one.
