The monitor that likes to sleep

I have a 19" crt Viewsonic monitor that all of a sudden will go into sleep mode appx. 1 second after you turn it on and the screen shows a picture. No amount of mouse movement will reactivate the monitor. I currently have a 15" dell monitor installed on the same pc and it works perfectly so I know it is the monitor. I have tried to reinstall the Viewsonic drivers that came with the monitor to no avail. I have left the pc and 19" monitor off for 4 months while I was away ( out of country) and when I returned it started to act like this.
Any ideas? I would hate to pay a shop $100+ for something simple.

Sounds like maybe there was a surge while you were away? IMO it sounds like the power circuitry got cooked

Is it worth taking it to a shop or is it time to buy a new one? It is a Viewsonic E90fb.

Well normally in LCDs there are 2 boards, one of them is the power supply, this one should be fairly cheap to replace if you can find a place that'll sell one. Most of the time they're fairly standard but it may take some heavy searching.
