View Full Version : Probably a stupid question

Let me give some background before I ask the question.

I run a 21" trinitron crt monitor, my friend today gave me an old dell 17" crt he had lying around. I connect the second monitor and everything works great in windows. I load up world of warcraft on my 21" and my image becomes noticably different, I typically play at 1600 x 1200 and now my max selectable resolution is 1200 x 1068 or something like that (i'm not home so i can't check). The funny thing is that happens to be the max resolution of the 17" monitor.

My question is, do i have to disable the 17" before I play in order to get my game back to 1600 x 1200? Is there a software solution? ultramon? Multimon? Ideally i'd like to play the game at 1600 x 1200 on my 21" while watching a dvd or videos on the 17" so if i have to disable the 17" before loading world of warcraft, I'm assuming I can't re-enable it mid game.

Ultramon works great for me - definitely a worthwhile piece of software. I would recommend that.

Usually games don't like it when you enable/disable monitors while the program is running. What video card do you have? And keep in mind that watching a DVD or video while running a game would require a fair amount of processing power...you'd probably want to have dual CPUs, or hyperthreading at the very least.

I had been playing wow in a window while watching a dvd in another window with little trouble. Installed ultramon and going to play with it, see if i can't get wow to run 1600 x 1200 like normal

games get fussy about dual screens. they just don't like them very much.
