View Full Version : Will a EVga 6800GS drive a Dell 2405?
The Dell site used to list crds that could drive this monitor but they seem to have removed that info.
Is anyone with a Dell 2405 using a 6800 GS?
I would like to upgrade my AGP card for the last time, but want to make sure it can handle this monitor.
They have the 2405 at $900 right now.
Thank you

Well, how much better is a 6800GS from a 6800NU? Theres no way in hell my 6800NU could push that native res in games, especially with any kind of eye candy. If you don't mind a non-native res, you'd be fine IMO.
If you're talking about just on the desktop resolutions and whatnot, then yeah you'd be way past fine.

6800gs is a lot bettter than a NU, and it also depends what games ur talking about. CS, sure, HL2, sure, Fear prob not... etc
imo just save your cash till you can get a pci ex+7800gt rather than upgrading from a 6600gt to 6800gs

a 6600gt is gonna have trouble powering a 2405 tho
Echo I have an agp bus. It will be at least a year before my 6600gt would have trouble running games. I would like to keep my rig and just get the display improved. I think I will get the montitor and see how my 6600gt runs it.Then get the 6800gs only if I need it.
Thanks for the quick reply's you folks answered my questions. I will not mind runnimg games at less then native, but I really wanted the desktop to be widescreen for DVD movies and such. It sounds like I will be able to do that with a 6800 gs.
Wish powerleap or somebody would just make a pcie to agp adapter lol.

I got a card that's basiclky a 6800Ultra and the 2405...I fine I run most games fine at the 1920 res, but FEAR needed to be downgraded to 1680x1050 (which I couldn't really tell a difference even though it was not native res...it's just so big it's not pronounced). You can also set to run 1:1 ratio so you'll use less of the screen but stay in native res mode. I would try for a used 7800GT though if you want to be sure to run 1920.
Thanks ajretke thats the answer I have been looking for. I will be stuck on the AGP bus for a while yet, so my choices are limited.
Can you run your 2405 at 1920 digital not just analog?
Looks like the 6800's only go to 1900x1200 digital.
To answer my own question, my new 2405 runs just fine on the 6800 GS. Native res 1920 x 1200.

6800GS is not just better then NU it's better then GT and Ultra. I have one myself and it crushed my 6800Ultra in all benches and games. 6800GS is the best card out of 6800 class.

wow....is that OC'ed red? I assume it is?
I know the GS was supposed to be between the GT and NU stock, perhaps because it's newer they used better RAM but lower clocks and when you OC it, it gets a nice hefy boost which overtakes even the ultra I guess?

dfonda, how much eyecandy can you push at native on the 2405fpw?
reddraggonXXX, that sounds sick, you have a thread with your info in it? I'm going to go look for it..... might pick one up for my lan party rig eventually.

I don't have a thread but I ran some quick benches for you guys. Also to mention this card will easily outperform any 6800 out there including Ultra when it's overclocked, which can be do even with stock HS and give you impressive results.
Here are scores from 3DMark05 and AquaMark that I just ran:

I have not played any games at native yet. Not sure what I have that will play native.
Here is a PIC of TW 2006 with a hacked file so it will do widescreen .(But not 1920x1200). Everthings way up on this game. Got the file from the widescreen gaming sticky at the top.

Well, i give you two options if you want to upgrade.
1.go for the AGP 7800 (when it comes out)
2.Buy a new mobo, then a 7600GT PCI-E when it comes out. That performs like a 6800Ultra, but with 24 pixel pipes.

Yeah thanks. This is an old thread. If you read my sig (2nd line) that info is in it. :p
