I will be purchasing a new LCD flatscreen monitor and need some suggestions. I'm looking at probably a 20" monitor. I will mostly be using it for FPS games (gaming). I have a budget of around $430. Where can I find the best deal? I was probably thinking of getting a 20" Dell monitor? Any suggestion would be helpful. Thank You.

Dells LCD's are quite top of the line. This is mine: Monitor (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=20053YR&c=us&cat=snp&category_id=6198&cs=19&l=en&Page=productlisting.aspx) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/images/products/large/20053YR.jpg

IIRC, dell uses samsung panels. if you can afford it, i would suggest getting the 2005fpw. i have heard nothing but good about them and dell is good about replacments if you have backlighting issues/dead pixels. i'm currently using a samsung 730b, basicly a 930b with a 17in panel instead of a 19in(thus the 7 in the name lol) incredible LCD IMO.

How does this mon, the dell 2005fpw compare with the samsung 204t? Anyone? I know the res is different, but generally...that is if someone's actually seen the two side by side or worked with both.

Anyone notice this monitor by samsung? The 204b...

I traded in my 204t for the 204b.

-BLUE LED!!
-faster display, no more ghosting web pages upon movage
-most excellent base, it works like a turntable for swivel action!
-Woot! No dead/stuck pixels. My 204t had one right in the middle!

You do sacrifice viewing angle tho, it's something I can live with.

how much viewing angle do you loose? I want to see it from everywhere!!! i checked out dells site and on the 20.1 screens they say nothing on their viewing angles or response time....sounds sketchy...

A friend has the 2005fpw. It looks great, but to be perfectly honest I havent seen gaming on it. It looks great and he has had no complaints. Its obviously widescreen format, which he wanted.

I use the 204T and am very happy with it. Its the first LCD I considered buying after being a die hard CRT man. I received it with 0 dead pixels and couldnt be happier with my purchase.

You won't be looking at the 204b from everywhere. If viewing angle's more important than go with the 204t Surfrider77 has.

If you value a quicker response, MUCH better stand, and the ability to lower the display so your eyes can see it...go with the 204b.

I myself will be checking out the Gateway WS tomororw, lol.

i checked it out today (gateway 2185w) looks nice except...it seemed like the picture was a little weird(maybe cause im use to a crt) and the icons looked streched(Wider than normal)i check the settings and it was on 1680x1050(Dont think i have ever seen a game support that kind of rez.) i mean would my unreal2004 work nice "on the stretch"Perhaps im being way to picky.

Welp, I caved and picked up the Gatway FPD2185W from CC today. Had them match Staples price of 540. It def seems much bigger, especially the horizontal. It's nearly 2 inches wider than the Samsung. Unfortunately, I'm stuck at 60hz until I find a way to force 75hz on this ATI card.

The buttons feel cheap, but the LED is blue. And I can dim the LED! I miss the Samsungs quick access brightness controls, so I'll have to setup some kind of progry for that. Any recs?

Well, I just figured out why NFS MW seemed so dark. Apparently viewing dark spots straight on just aren't viewable on this monitor. Here's a couple pics...

The CPU fan and GPU are so dark in the first photo. But the second photo shows them much more clearly. I thought I was missing some detail in games, lol!

So is this fixable or an issue with the panel? Cause it's pretty much a deal breaker.
