This may sound strange, but I need someone to confirm something for me. My MX-510 seems to be emitting a very high pitched noise that is barely audible, but definately there. I can hear it much better when I put my ear right next to the mouse.
It is prettymuch driving me crazy and I need some people to tell me if thier MX-510 makes a high pitched noise :bang head
Thanks

So you hear it too?
It just seems very strange to me that a mouse would make such a noise

Ok, well this makes me feel better. I thought I got a bunk mouse! I guess I'll have to do more than just "feel" the mouse next time I buy one! :(
People are gonna give me some crazy looks when I ask them what the mouse "sounds" like! LOL
Ha, never noticed it, but mine does it too! I guess its not out of the ordinary then.
It's probably just high-frequency electrical noise...... the same thing occurs in your house. When you're younger, you can hear the electrical noise in the household wiring.... I can't anymore, too much loud music in the last few years :)

it is electrical noise.
btw, i have a 518, and its the same thing. i wouldn't expect the diamondback, copperhead, G5, and G7 to be any different
i can't hear it until my mouse is pressed against my hears hard... my fans and guitar and music and ambient noise totally drown it out. i think you just either:
need to stop putting your mouse up to your ear ;)
or
start blaring some music hahaha
wierd. my 518 has it too.
Werd. never noticed.
LOL....wow my 518 and 510 both make the noise, never noticed it until you pointed it out! Thanks alot, now that I know it's there it's gonna drive me crazy :bang head

I usually can't hear it until I put my ear right next to it either, but sometimes when it is quiet in my room and I am sitting right over the keyboard/mouse I can just barely "hear" it. It's wierd because I can't really tell I can even hear it, I just almost feel it or something. I don't know, it's hard to explain. But I can infact hear it sometimes when it is really quiet (my computer fans are too quiet to drown out the noise). I guess I'll just learn to live with it or take Solid's advice :p

I never noticed the noise on my mouse, but it isn't a surprise...most things make a noise.

I can just see everybody who reads this thread picking up their mouse and holding it right up next to their ear. :p But yeah, my 518 does have that same high pitch sound. I would have never known otherwise.

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical has no noise that I can detect. But I think I may not have very good hearing from all the loud concerts.

My current mouse makes a lot of noise, it's not a MX-### though, it's a nYko AIR FLO. Has a nice little fan in it. :p
My MX-1000, never heard anything from that one though...
I do however consider myself to be one of those people with the electronic sensitive ears. The ones that can tell when a CRT is going bad, or when the TV is acting up just by the whine it emits, or the numerour other electronic devices that do the same. Its usually enough to drive me crazy because when I hear it, it is LOUD to me, sometimes drowning out other noises. Everyone thinks I'm crazy because they can't hear it of just faintly hear it. Figured my ears would be damaged enough by now to not hear stuff like that anymore. ;)

So THAT's what that sound is!
I recently took apart my computer to see where this high-pitched sound was coming from. I thought I broke a fan or something. Thanks for the info!

Interesting. My MX1000 doesn't make that noise, so I guess it has something to do with the optical-component... although I can't imagine how.

I love when the most obvious things shoot out at you.
I can hear something very faint in my MX700, might be just a hypocondriac reaction though.

Like I said; I could hear it just hovering over my keyboard. I thought it was my HDD, but finally realized it was the mouse after putting my ear up to everthing within arms reach.
Keyboard...no
monitor...no
speakers...no
desk...no :bang head
LOL
ive been wondering what that sound was, it was quite maddening. Though my mom wouldnt let me dissect the computer to find out what it was, now i know that my MX518 is to blame.
wow, thats really weird. i've never heard it above my fans befor

I'm not too sure if this has been addressed before, but here goes.
I recently purchased an MX-510 mouse and shortly thereafter I began hearing a high-pitched noise. After freaking out and disasembling my computer in a fit of frustration, I later found out that the noise was coming from the mouse itself. I'm just curious as to the nature and, if possible, remedy to this problem. I have a very quiet system and the noise is quite annoying.
So much for an answer. The noise will be a one of the unsolved mysteries of the computer world.
