Or not posting to be more specific. I guess this would go here even though it's probably mobo related too.
I built my friend a new comp and got it all setup and when I go to boot it up the fans come on, including the huge one one his Sapphire Fireblade edition X800GTO (PCIe). I've tried two different trying both the VGA and the DVI to VGA adaptor to no avail. The monitor doesn't come on itself either. I get some activity leds and I think I've got everything in the system panel header configured properly but I'm not 100% positive as the manual was lackluster with my ASRock Dual SATA2 939 mobo.
This is the card I'm using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102613
Here's a pic of the card.

See the tiny white 4-pin connector right above the words "Fireblade" on the heat sink? Well I didn't get a cable for that and I don't have anything that will fit in there so I left it. So my questions are, what is it? What does it do? And do I need something there to POST for example. It's a somewhat beefy card so I imagine external power isn't out of the question though it's not like a standard 4 pin molex connector, it looks more like a cd-audio connection.
Anyway, I tried putting in my AGP 6800 in the AGP slot (fortunate this mobo has both AGP 8x and PCIe isn't it.) and didn't get any image there either. My psu is a Coolmax 550wt 35A so it's plenty for my setup. I only have one 80gig Hitachi HDD, a Creative modem, and Soundblaster Live! soundcard, with a floppy and dual layer NEC dvd drive. Plus my 3200+ Venice and GTO,m but it's not like I can't pump out enough juice to POST obviously.
Alright well hope you guys can help me:)
EDIT: Go here: http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/939DSATA2.htm for the mobo manual (to download).

Okay second video didn't change things. So at least that much is confirmed. So perhaps it's a HDD prob? Though that wouldn't affect the POST would it? Must be a mobo problem as the same video card and display worked together perfectly yesterday. Hmmm... Again, I hope you guys have some ideas on this, sooner rather than later:)

No image to the monitor on post in no way indicates a problem with the video card. If you have tested with a known working VGA card, then you have elmiinated that from the equation. Try starting up the system with everything disconnected except for a PS2 keyboard, power cord, a VGA card, and one tested stick of memory. There should be no drives connected nor any other PCI cards installed. There is allways the possiblity that something on the mobo is shorting to the case preventing post, or the CPU is not properly seated, or the CPU cooling device is not making good contact with the CPU itself, or the ram is not seated correctly.

Thanks man. I'll try dissconnecting the the HDD and the optical and floppy drives. I don't have the modem or sound card in because I wanted as few variables as possible like you were implying. I think I have a rouge screw floating around in the case, perhaps he's the problem. Hope I can sort it out.

Okay well I scoped things out and discovered that I didn't actually have the lever latch on the cpu all the way down! But to my dismay even with that solved and everything but the essentuals disconected I still didn't get a POST. So back to the drawing board I guess.:(

Alright well I RMA's everything Newegg would allow so I can start fresh and do it right with known reliable components. Thanks anyway.

good luck man. Hope that works out for you. Perhaps the thermal protection on the mobo didn't kick on and your processor overheated instantly ? It's hard to say at this point. What components were you able to RMA ?

I could only return several items and decided to just keep the keyboard/mouse, monitor (tested before I started swapping components, can't return it anyway), and speakers. Newegg wouldn't let me RMA the cpu cooler (because I bought it with a 'combo' sticker deal!), sound card, processor, or modem so I just kept them for later.
I'll need the following:
HDD
DVD burner
Mobo
GPU
Memory
PSU
Case (think I've decided though).
I'll inquire in a new thread though.

It's a long shot but perhaps I got a defective PSU and it damaged my friends mobo, and then mine when I tried it with the same PSU so neither would boot?

Thanks again man.
