I just realized that my 19inch is only about 18 inch viewable size. So I guess when My 19inch LCD arrives I can expect it to be a true 19inch right? I just never got out a measureing tape to notice this before today.

LCD measurements are 1" over the viewable size always I believe.

It isn't that bad, they still look awesome compared to crts.

I'm not saying it's bad... I'm just saying that the measurements you read are 1" bigger than the viewable screen will be e.g. my 17" LCD is actually 16" across if I measure it with a ruler. I happen to prefer LCDs as well btw.

Actually its CRT's that are 1" over the viewable size. LCDs are named for their actual viewing size. At least the ones I've run across are.

All of my LCD screens are the exact measurement that I purchased. My CRT on the other hand is an inch smaller than advertised. I believe the reason is it's a 19inch picture tube, but it only gives me an 18 inch viewing size. TV manufacturers did this same thing till the 1970's when they were finally forced to give viewing size rather than picture tube size. It's just another corporate flim flam and in the computer biz there are lots of them.

I agree with R7.
