Any suggestions? I need a smaller CRT under $150(? I havent really priced them). 17" is about right, and it has to be flat, the curved screens bother me.

Are you going with a 17" because of a size restriction? You can get a really nice Sony Trinitron tubed 21" Flatscreen CRT for under $150 easy.

Yep. I need something smaller, but I dont want an LCD for this.
I guess the Trinitron tubes are the best? I'd like to pick one up localy to bypass the shipping. But I dont mind a used one of ebay or something if it saves me a bit.

Viewsonic PF775. With a horizontal refresh rate of 97kHz, it will support 1600x1200 with a refresh rate of 77Hz. Not ideal, but pretty good, and superb for a 17". You can find it cheaper if you go refurb.
Edit: Also consider the Viewsonic P70f, as it seems to be about the same as the PF775. And, definitely consider the Viewsonic P75f+. Also similar, it has the bonus of support of 1792x1344 at 69Hz. If you're not too sensitive to flicker, you might find that useful if your desktop starts to feel cramped or your games aren't detailed enough.

Yeah, i would go with the above recomendations... (this is when we need an "I'm with stupid" smiley)
I belive trinitrons are no longer in production and when they fail, they get the trademark trinitron lines of death
and most of the trinitrons out there today have seen quite a bit of use / wear and tear, and are often near the end of thier rope anyway.
*Example* i used a magnent to make a happy face in my old 22' trinitron i used to use for server testing
...you are likley better off going with the view sonics.

Forgot to mention that it is eBay... sorry about that. Anyway here is a link for a Dell P1130 that is just a kick-ass CRT.

@ Cullam3n: What refresh rate do you have at max res?
I was in Best Buy today and checked all their 17" CRT's. @ 1280x1024 none could do better than 60hz. Ouch.
I'm thinking maybe a 19" will be OK.

1600x1200 @ 60hz
1280x960 @ 75hz (which is what I'm running, runs 1280x1024 also)
1152x864 @ 85hz
1024x768 @ 100hz
That's pretty good for a 17" inch. :)
