WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOW
Seriously, all I can say is wow. THis thing is a real piece of equipment. It is extremely easy on the eyes compared to my old 15' kogi monitor....YEAH...HUGEEEEEE DIFFERENCE! As you can tell by how I'm typing, I JUST received this. I am extremely happy with Dell, I ordered this at 9 o' clock last night and it's on my doorstep TODAY!!!! With this monitor, and the deal I got it at, I'm going to have to go with godman ( I think it is ) and say this is the BEST purchase I have ever made for my baby. <3<3<3<3<3 <--LOVE CHAIN or friendship bracelet that me and my new monitor have..they're matching. umm...not much else today..just "wow"
Only complaint is that the monitor can "teeter-totter" from side to side since the only support it gets is in the VERY center. I dont' really mind though, it's not like my room shakes or the monitor is ever hit.

Its a known issue, it saggs to the right a little bit too.
Oh, well. Its still worth the $744 I spent on it.

sooooo true. I <3 this thing. HOpefully some more people will buy it and feel the same way I did. I can't see any light bleeding through....at all.
dell says mine is to ship out on friday. i hope it comes through ok, i cant wait. im using a viewsonic 17" i got last march, its goin upstairs for the old man. lookin at my desk i think im gonna have to rearrange a few things. either that, or bolt the sucker to a stud in the wall. its gonna serve dual purpose, tv and monitor, hope it works out.

This thing is incredible. I mean out of all my computer purchases I've made, peripherals are by far the best. I bought klipsch 4.1's 5 years ago....that was my best inestment till I went with the 2405 and 2001! I paid 900 about 9 months ago for mine, but definetly worth it!
Having this much space to workwith on your desktop is a dream
I was lucky to pick up a 2405 on a great dell deal last week.
So far it's looking like my 17inch viewsonic might have to be retired. lol
The screen is far bigger than i thought it would be.
No back light bleeding or dead pixels that i can see so far.

Here at school these 1704FPV's are like that. The nice part is, you can hit a button on the stand in the back to unlock the monitor and raise it, and it will turn so you can actually get the monitor sideways at 90 degrees then flip the desktop. It is awsome for reading long articles or OCF browsing to have the monitor longways :D
Congrats on your purchase, I am amazed at these 1704FPV's, I can only imagion what the 2405FPW is like.

arg, this is making me want one so bad. But I just spent $550 on 2 video cards, $250 on a CPU and a mounting plate for it, and I still need a car. But, on a plus side, im owed ~$800

I'm going to jump in here and say I also love my 2405FPW more then any other screen I've ever owned(I've owned ALOT of LCD's). How Dell sells these for so much cheaper then everyone else I don't know. My 2405FPW has a better picture then my 20" 2001FP's. The only screen I have every seen that actually has a better picture then then my 24" dell is my 19" viewsonics(VP191b). That 2405FPW is worth every penny of the $800 I spent on it.

Holy jesus, where do you guys get the money to spend on this stuff? I mean, I have a job and all, but I also have bills.
got mine yesterday. i was actually surprised to see the UPS guy delivering it since it said on the dell site it wouldnt ship till friday. the thing IS huge, but it is soo freakin sweet. i have a 17" viewsnc crt and the 2405 just puts it to shame. even my lil bros 19" viewsnc doesnt compare. no dead pixels here either. the one truly great thing about it is that it has the card readers on the monitor. no more hooking up my maxxum 7d to the comp to load pics. it was def a great buy, and i probably may end up pickin up another one if a deal comes around again.

Thank you for the link.
I decided to send it back to dell because it is really TOO big for me. Or maybe i'll sell it on Ebay, the 30% offer ended today here in Germany and its back at its old price (1250€).
I would be really happy if i find somebody who buys it or 1000€ or even more. Or i'll just send it back within two weeks.
Everything is fine with that display, no dead pixels or whatever. So maybe i'll order 2 20" tomorrow. ;)
But thanks for the help anyways.

i saw this thing today (it was running windows vista, which sucked majorly, but that's for another thread), and it's awesome. the picture looks unbelievable, and you just get so much ROOM. it's cazy, i loved it. i'll never be able to afford it, but i may get a 2001fp or 2005fpw next time dell has those coupons that discount the price to ~$450.

I just got this monitor to..
After put the monitor on my desk, I couldnt hold in a laugh..
Its crazy hehe..
Now to my question.
What drivers should I use for it ?
I cant find any drivers on the cd that came with it. ?!?
And how do I activate the usb ports on the monitor??
There is no info on the manual or cd. only says insert usb here.
I did insert my usb memory stick and it lgihts on. But it doesnt show up in the comuter like it does if I use usb on computer directly?!?
Thanks

the monitor comes with a disk, and this is the listed driver.
did you plug in the usb cable from the monitor to the pc. that is the only way the usb hub in the monitor will work.
are you using the standard VGA (BLUE) cable for video, or the DVI (WHITE) for video. The DVI looks considerably better at high resolutions.

Ya I noticed I needed the usb cable from monitor to cpmuter first to make the usb ports work.. Am I suposed to have that cable in allways ?
I am using the DVI white cable. But still got these strange artifacts I never seen before when playing quake 4 in 1600x1200 16:9
I thought I was using a newer cat driver than the one that came with the cd. But is there no dell monitor driver on that disk? only a cat driver for my g card?
This is the only driver on the disk that came with the monitor:
wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-082-041130a-019577c.exe
And im using this one now:
wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-121-050322a-022141C.exe
So I guess im using a newer one. should I not use the one I have ?
Thanks again!

for 879 shipped at costco this is still one sweet monitor. the extra peripherals still make it one of the best monitors out there for the price in my view. hopefully the new 30" will be getting the extra add-ons that the 24" has , otherwise i feel its just too overpriced.

I can't believe this thread is still active... I got a GDM-FW900 and love it way more. CRT pwns LCD.
Yeah but some of us like the year 2006....not 1998 :P
LCD's are the future! Besides...as long as you get a good one (and the 2405fpw is) you're pretty well better off with an LCD...Far less space, less heat, less brain cancer, less eye strain, less broken backs moving your display around, DIGITAL input, and (in comparative sizes to the 2405FPW) PRICE...as the GDM-FW900 is like 2x the price
And with the GDM-FW900 specifically you loose 1.5" of screen....you don't really gain anything with resolution because you'll be hard up to find a graphics setup that will take advantage of 2304 x 1440 (in gaming anyway)
Now for a graphics person...the CRT still makes sense for color accuracy....but technology is catching up quickly and colors will be pretty well dead on with new techs. pretty soon.
Now please don't get me wrong....you have a VERY nice display there....heck not long ago I was against LCD's entirely...I thought they were rubbish for gaming...and I guess that a couple years ago they were...but like my main point here....." times are-a changin' "
So I would have to disagree with "CRT pwns LCD" :)

The rig in my sig is not pushing the new panel. It was purchased for my new Rig...Which I guess I will update into my sig after this. But it's a water cooled 4400+, 2x1Gb Ballistix, DFI SLI-DR Expert, SLI 7800 GTX KO's, X-fi, Raptor 150, Caviar SE16 400Gb, Plextor PX-716SA, Enermax Liberty 620W, Coolermaster Stacker 830.

Plus the fact that the 2405 will scale down and play in whatever res you put it in (like if you played 1024x768 it would put black bars on the top and sides)
And yeah...that would suck....but it's still nice that it does that.

The 2405FPW when working in tandem is most likely the greatest thing that is ever contrived. There is nothing quite like playing COD2 on your X360 on one while working on the other, maybe usuing google earth to check out how well pointe du hoc was terrain mapped, playing choice tunes, and watching streaming quotes...its how u never leave the office. god i hate the fact that all my dad uses them for is CAD and solid edge. :P But when i comehome from school }:)
hell if u have $2,200 kicking around, why not get a 3007FPW!?!?!
but, you'll most likely need a 7800 OC'd or EQ. to actually get a positive framerate.

I don't think there's ever been a product that everybody unanimously LOVED, not just liked.
I have not heard one bad review of the panel from anyone.
Now that is a thing of serious merit.

I have a complaint....my 2405 can't make a good grilled cheese sandwich.

LOL. I could add a couple more things but there might be children present;) ;)
This monitor has already spoiled me. I just got done playing some FEAR and didn't have to sit up on it.

I'm almost ashamed to say this, but I've had a 2405fpw for several months now, and have yet to play a game on it o_O
Its hooked up to my machine at work with a Radeon x300 in it...

I just decided to pay $12 for the 90 membership....I downloaded all of the 1920x1200 papers .....They are VERY nice.
I'm thinking about getting one of those wallpaper switchers because I find myself changing it regularly anyway.

I've played Q4, FEAR, BF2, Splinter Cell:CT, HL2, and GTA:SA I think they ALL look marvelous :)
I think that only Splinter Cell and GTA natively support Widescreen so I have been playing them in 1600x1200 and I play in 1:1 ratio on the 2405FPW. I thought that I would be really bothered by the black bars on either side....but they are pretty small and, for me, go unnoticed anyway. The display is so large to start with that you don't mind the little bars. At least I don't. :)
But yeah....Games look incredible!....shoot everything looks incredible. I have yet to look at "innapropriate pictures" but I can only imagine they will look nice too :eh?:

You can run widescreen in BF2 if you edit the shortcut; I believe you need to add something like:
+widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
at the end of the box that contains the target file.

Tom's hardware just did (another) review including the 2405 and they just about said gaming was unbearable. Though I'm not sure how snobbish they are when it comes to ghosting

Will my old 9800 pro work ok?Maybe for playing Doom2. :p In short, if you play the latest games, you will not be able to use the full resolution with that old card. What you can do as a temporary solution is set up your video driver such that it displays black bars along the top/bottom and sides when you use a resolution smaller than native. So your image will only be the size of a 15" or 17" LCD display, which sort of defeats the purpose of getting this monitor. But, if you want the monitor now and will upgrade your card soon, it will work.
Thanks,
I guess I will wait.
