To buy or not to buy (2405FPW)

Well, I see that all of you are very happy with your monitors. I definately have the money, and will definately be buying from Dell since all the ones off ebay go for about the same. The question is: Do you think dell will lower the price or maybe give out a better coupon than the one that's already out before christmas?

No, not before X-mas, $744 is a steal. If anything expect it to be higher in the comming months, as rumor has it, dell is getting rid of coupons.

The deal will most likely resurface at least once or twice before Christmas.

I was going to jump on a 2405 myself, but I am a bit strapped for cash (anniversary is this week :-/). Anyhow, I'm banking on a similar or better deal coming out around Thanksgiving.

Bottom line: if you can afford to, buy now....but don't feel bad about waiting a few weeks.

It will run 2D fine, but you won't get too far with a 9800 in gaming.

Given your current GPU, I'd wait on the 2405, or go with the 2005fpw instead.

It's an excellent price...but the question is whether or not you believe the deal will happen again. This is the second deal of it's kind within several weeks - I believe that a similar or better deal will happen in the coming weeks; others will not be so optimistic.

The 2405 does need a more powerful card to run it's native res...but you can run non native res and just have parts of the screen blacked off so you don't get a distorted image....or you can stretch it but keep the aspect ratio.

The LCD is amazing, I game on it, PS on it, browse.....word documents (2 full pages side by side)....and my 2001 has trillian, winamp, TV tuner....icons, whatever else I need open.

The realestate the 2405 alone gives is amazing....75% more pixels than a 19" LCD

That would only apply in 3D applications. When I RMA'd my 6800GT, I used an Nvidia MX200 with 64MB of RAM to run my PC, and it handled the native res without error.

Oh...and to the post originator...just buy it. You're going to love it.

Ya my card has issues depending on the game running at full native resolution. Then again suprisingly as long as its a face paced game you should beable to play it at a lower res and not horribly notice any distortion.

I run FEAR @ 1280x720 currently with my system and it still looks great on my monitor, though some AA would help a little though at this res. Quake 4 i was running at 1440x900 also.
