Myself and a mate are intending to buy LCD monitors. 19"/17" i would like to know in general what is the best brand. We've got BenQ, Phillips, LG and Samsung in mind.

Ones weve been looking at:
19" Phillips 190B6CX 8ms DVI
19" BenQ FP91G+ 8ms DVI
19" Samsung 913B/940B 8ms DVI

Which out of them is better and which brand not only out of these but in general
is considered the "best".

Thank-You. Muchly Appreciated.

P.S Also a mate of mine says that there is only a couple of makers of LCD parts Phillips, Samsung and Fujitsu is this true? He also thinks phillips are the best (surpise surprise he has one).

What about the Viewsonic VP930b?

http://www.viewsonic.com.au/products/productspecs.php?id=232

I was playing with one last week and it was gorgeous. 8bit panel, 8ms G-G (20ms B-W-B), 1000:1 contrast...

edit: oh, yes, there are only a few panel manufacturers - the VP930b is an AU Optronics M190EG01 V0 (http://www.auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?sec=monitor&func=info&product_id=5&items_id=1)

BenQ owns (at least a part of) AU Optronics.

LG Philips LCD (LPL): http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/common/cmn000_j_e.jsp

Samsung makes their own.

This doesn't always mean that a LG or Philips will have an LPL panel, that a BenQ will have an AUO panel, or that a Samsung monitor will have a Samsung panel in it. They sometimes go with someone else's panel if it is more suitable for the desired market.

Which one is best? That's like asking between intel & AMD, or ATi and nV. Depends if you're looking for 6bit/8bit, or high speed/low speed, or viewing angles, or whatever. No screen is perfect, so you have to pick what's most important to you and look for a screen that excells in those areas.

re: who makes Fujitsu monitors: http://www.fujitsu.com/my/news/pr/fmal_20030128.html

Fujitsu used to make their own panels, but sold the business to Sharp at the beginning of this year.

Q2 market share for panel manufacturers:
LG.Philips LCD 25%
Samsung 20%
AUO 15%
CMO 12%
Sharp 5%
Others 23% (Hitachi, Sanyo, NEC- Mitsubishi, Kyocera, CMO, CPT...)

ok brand loyality is not what you want to look at. Find a solid monitor with a good track record. Hyundai has a good line of monitors. I so does viewsonic, samsung. but it varies from model to model
