Hello,

im kinda new to the monitor section, iv been wandering the CPU and Graphics section for quite some time.

But now, my mum wants to buy me a new monitor, and she seems interested in a LCD.

I have a 7800 GTX, and it seems a waste to display it under 1280 max

i was hoping for a 1600 or 2048 res LCD, is there such thing?

dell 24" does 1920x1200. it's widescreen though so it depends what you want to do with it.

LCD monitors, unlike CRT monitors, are designed to operate at "native resolution". Both 17" and 19" LCD monitors have a native resolution of 1280 x 1024. Running them at any other resolution will result in very poor image quality. In order for you to run at or near the resolution you've indicated you will have to get a 24" LCD and pay the cost.

The 20" widescreen from Dell does 1680x1050. I figure if you've got an uber graphics card you can just crank up all the eye candy to make up for a slightly lower resolution. (AA and AF should make up for this)

damn, ow well, i wanted to pay less than $1200

Having lower res and cracking up AA and AF wont make much perf diff from a high res and with AA and AF all they way up on a 7800 GTX

you can get 24" for about $800 if you wait for a coupon... and 21" for around $400.
also, check out 4:3 ratio 21 inchers - might be something in your price range.

Any high quality 20" LCD (regular not widescreen) will net you 1600X1200 resolution.

The Dell 20's have 1600x1200 res.

I got my 2405FPW (1920x1200) for $715 shipped off eBay. I got lucky, most sell for around $800+ shipping which is another $60+.

You will have to remember though, most games currently might beable to pull off 1600x1200 currently nearly maxed out, but future games will not fair that well. Fear is a perfect example of this.

hmmmm FEAR runs with approx 50-90 fps on mine under max at 1280 res.

So i wanna push it further

And i want a new screen ;)
