Broken Laptop LCD

What kind of things can cause a laptop LCD to have vertical lines all over it. I'm thinking something in the actual screen, the connection (i.e. cable), or the graphics controller. Any kind of troubleshooting that can be done to see if it's fixable?

Don't know if the colors all blead together I think it mean somone pressed the screen to hard or much.

No it's vertical lines, sort of like artifacting I suppose?

Google your laptop and see if the broken screen is a common problem. My screen was going on/off and then just died. I googled my laptop and broken lcd and found out that most people with this problem had bad cables. A quick trip to ebay and my laptop is working again.
