I went out and got the SAMSUNG 204T from best buy, ended up costing me 650 total. came with vga and dvi cables.
no dead pixels.
how does one check for backlight bleeding? what is it?
this monitor is pretty awesome. everything is so crisp and the colors so vibrant.
but I do notice some ghosting in that when making a fast motion u see the cloning effect, but its tolerable.
there is tearing but i think thats more my hardware. dont think video card and cpu can handle the 1600x1200 native resolution this monitor has for the games.
one thing i notice tho when playing movies is i see more dithering, its not as smooth as it is on a crt, but again the colors are soo vibrant on the lcd. and huge brightness.
my dilemma of sorts is if i should opt for the dell 2405fpw. I decided to try the samsung since its at best buy and easy to buy and return if need be.
the dell can be had for maybe 150-200 more dollars. u get the wider aspect, more input options. but its dell u have to wait to get it and wait to return it if problems with the monitor. so should i just stick with this samsung? seems to be perfect, but with ppl raving about the 2405 kinda want to try that as well and decide... havent seen alot of ppl write a review for this samsung 204t.

Well I can't say anything about the 2405FPW because I don't have one, but I have heard good things as well. If you are happy with this monitor I don't see any need to spend the $200 more to get the Dell.
Backlight bleeding is when you can see light coming through typically in the corners of the screen. It is most visible on a black screen. The less completely black it is, the more backlight bleeding you have. Here's a picture, but it's not great.

for only 200 more you get dells awesome return policy, and a 24" picture. I have the 2405fpw and a 2001fp...it's amazing how much bigger the 24" looks...and I paid 400 more and still think it was worth it.

For clarification, how big is your current monitor. I understood that he already had a 24" monitor (not widescreen), and as such, would not see much improvement by moving to a Dell 2405FPW. Just my opinion though.

yes its 20 inches. i feel bad returning this to best buy :) because it seems to be perfect no defects, no dead pixels, no backlight issue. well im gonna keep trying to talk to a dell rep to see if they can get the 2405 price down to about 700 if they do, then i will buy it. best buy has a 14 day return policy so. ill just keep using it and see. thx
Take that extra $200 bucks you will save by keeping what you already have and invest it in a new vid card. Good grief, you are still using a GF3?

If he doesn't play games, there's not much reason to upgrade the video card. That being said, I sure hope you don't play games! :p

haha sorry batboy , i have ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb agp.
yeah gonna need more than 200 dollars, need a new cpu, ram, mobo :)
right now my options are to go for the lg 1980 or dell 2405 fpw. if lg then i wont need to upgrade system i think,
if dell then yeah ill be hitting the credit debt and getting a new rig.
Whew, at least a 9800 Pro is still a good card. I have a couple of 'em too.

i got rid of tearing with this monitor by turning v sync ON ;)
i tried calling dell for the 2405fpw but they wouldnt budge off their web price like 1,105 or something. I dont know how these other ppl call in and get it for 700 or so seems crazy.
so on that note now im just thinkin if i should stay with this or LG 1980.
on another note the guy offered me a refirbed 2005 for like 448. ppl got that brandnew for less......
sigh i never get good deals , always end up paying premium
with everyone flooding thier phones, begging for deals, I bet they tracked down the letter about the dell reps and how they do business, and told thier sales people to tighten up for now.
atleast, thats what I would do, if I noticed a sudden rise in people calling in to order, versus internet orders, all while, asking for alot more deals, then just a few weeks earlier.

yeah sucks that i cant get in on the deal, i have a question
im playing cs source and for some reason some text is missing.... and digits as well in the game... when i lower resolution it seems to be fine but high res words and numbers are seperated i mean missing in between. any ideas?
just call them and tell them if other people are getting good deals and you cant, they are doing illicit trade practices, and that you will file a complaint with the Better buisness bureu, that should wake them up and think again :D

Not sure what you are describing, do you have a screen shot?
By the way, do you still have the 204T? I've been drooling over this monitor for about a year and a half now and I still haven't gotten one, haha! It's about $550 on NewEgg and around $650 at Best Buy. Went you went to BB to get it, did they let you test it on the spot, or did you just have to take it home, cross your fingers, and plug it in? Did they have any dead/stuck pixel policies? If you didn't get a perfect monitor, would they have let you exchange it without investigating? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really interested in this monitor and I want to know if I can make sure I get a perfect one if I go to BB, haha! Thanks in advance! :)
