just wondering if its worth it to go for Dell's 20.1" Widescreen

i have a dell 17" ultrasharp and im running dual monitors w/ a 17 inch CRT
dell has the 17" ultrasharp on sale for 250 so i was wondering if it would be a better idea just to get another 17 inch instead of the 20.1, because a 20.1 with a 17 inch might be a little wasteful for my needs

although widescreen gaming would be pretty sweet

The 20.1" would be my choice. If you're into gaming a 17" is too small I think. I tried it once and I could barely see what I was shooting at. It's all personal preference though.

widescreen baby!
the 5:4 is such a disadvantage compared to 16:10. Also, you can view 2 documents fine on the 2005fpw. I would get the wide now and later get a single 17 and go dual with a 17 5:4 and a 20 16:10...same height. Right now I run a 2001fp and a 2405fpw and it works great...gaming, work and movies on the right, TV, multitasking whatever on the left.

I would say go for the Dell WS. I started out with 2x 17" LCDs, and now I have a triple monitor setup with the 20.1" Dell 2005FPW in the middle and the 2x 17" on the sides. It is awesome.

I run two Viewsonic 17", and I'll be switching to one widescreen soon. The only good part about dual 5:4 is for some applications with multiple instances where the form factor fits well- like dual CAD windows, one on each- so for real "work" they may be better. Regular documents do fine side by side on one widescreen on my lappy, and while I haven't had the chance to try Photoshop it should fit well, too. Where you really win is gaming and movies, which just don't compare on a 17".
