OK people - I am buying in the UK, and want some advice as to what models to look at. I really don't know much about TFTs, but my sister wants one for when she goes to uni for space reasons.
Her specifications are "match my black pc and not more than £150 if possible". She will not be using it for gaming, and doesn't have dvi - but she would like to watch the occasional DVD on it. 17inch would be the right kind of size, though I think she wouldn't mind 15inch!
The budget seems ok to me - but I don't really know where to look. A quick search turned up this one (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=9438733886&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=78535) but I am not confident enough to buy without you wise people giving me some pointers! Hehe!

BenQ makes good monitors. The specs look ok for the price on the one you listed.

I agree with batboy. I have heard good things about BenQ, and that model looks good. 1280x1024 resolution, 500:1 contast ratio, 12ms pixel latentcy. Great for standard desktop stuff and fast enough to have no perceptible blurr during video playback.

Go for it!

Yeah - I did. I await the results with great interest, though to be honest, my sister will just be happy that it matches her pc
I feel confident it will get the job more than done!

Looks like we all agree on benq, they are great. I personally have a Samsung SyncMaster 172X, its a little more but a beautiful monitor.

Yeah - i've heard good things about the syncmasters - just couldn't find one in my (sister's) budget. The best thing about doing things like this for other people - is you get to test out equipment for free!
