I use two monitors all the time and really like it! I would like to try 4.
This is for video editing and spreadsheets mainly.

Has anyone run 3 or 4 monitors with two 6600 or 6800 video cards?
By having 4 DVI ports I think it would work ok?

I'm building a new X2 system with either the DFI Lanparty UT nF4 or a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and would like to run two 6600GT PCI-Express cards.

If the 4 monitor setup didn't work I could always go SLI and just run two monitors like I am now.

I don't have to have the Ultimate gaming machine but I do like details on Max and resolutions at least 1024x768 and be able to keep at least 40 FPS.

Give me your thoughts on this.
I don't want to spend over $550.00 on Video cards.

I would get a 7800 GTX and then just buy a PCI card to run the final two monitors on. The 7800 GT will smoke a 6600 GT set-up and dump less heat into your case.

The only problem with my solution is that you wont have all DVI ports in your set-up so you will have to think about that.

My vote also goes for using a single 7800gtx. It can be just as fast, if not faster, as an SLI setup (6600 or 6800) in some cases, and its only one card. Leaves room for SLI later on :)

getting two 6800gt's would be kind of hard for under $550... but as other people have said getting a 7800 now and upgrading to SLI later would be a good idea.

You can get a 7800GTX for around $500

Why is this in the Display Section?

I should have put this in the video card section I guess. I was thinking someone running 4 monitors or displays would have an Idea of how well or if this would even work.
Sorry for my confusion on this.

I guess I could run a 7800 for my first two monitors and then throw in some real cheep PCI-Express card like a 6200 for my other two monitors untill the price on the 7800 comes down or I get more money.

Can you do that with two video cards? Not run them in SLI on a SLI motherboard?

One videocard for the main screen and gaming, a matrox card for the rest (great 2d, no lag with resolutions and multiple screens).

When you say a Matrox card for my second two monitors, are you talking about a card that uses a plain PCI slot or a Matrox card that uses PCI-Express?

Give me an example of which Matrox you are talking about.

Thanks.
