I have had 6 brand new televisions either be broken right out of the box or die/get severly damaged within a few weeks of owning them. Of the six, four had picture tube problems with spots. The other two problems are irrelavent to this thread. My most recent one just developed a huge golden yellow spot covering almost half of the screen a few minutes ago. It happens when ever a very bright white image is being displayed. I turned the TV off and when I put it back on after a few minutes it seemed to be gone but when I put on a channel with a white image in that area it seemed to come back but not as strong as before. My old TV didn't die, it still works and is in another room and it has never given me this problem. What the hell is going on? Anyone know?

The yellowing when a bright image is displayed sounds to me like the phosphors are getting overheated. Overheating the mask/phosphors is a result of the brightness being set to high iirc.

Can you name the specific model you are having an issue with? I know the Sanyo HDTVs that were sold at walmart sometimes developed yellow spots.

i get that yellow thing on the living room hdtv on a small left side of the screen. it came like that out of the box. it's a cheap second hand hdtv my mom bought from some guy. if i had been the one doing the shopping we would never have gotten that tv.

the problems you have with crt may be due to your electrical output. try connecting the tv to a ups. or it could be there is an electrical appliance in your home causing interference. try moving the tv around the room and see if the problems go away.

I have toned down the brightness. I had dialed it down a bit after getting the tv but I've tweaked it more since that one spot showed up to help make sure it won't come back. After reading the above I'll definitely tweak it more. Add the fact the base temp in my house is in the mid thirties so the overall temp is up probably doesn't help. As for the brand it is a Toshiba but I know all about Sanyo. I had four defective Sanyos in a row, three of which were bad right out of the box. I will never buy Sanyo again. They were completely unwilling to help me. I've looked into the Toshiba warranty details and if necessicary I can get it fixed at a local shop. Sanyo basically told me I was SOL.

This is why I love toshiba! Never had a problem with toshiba themselves. Only had a problem with a lazy/stupid technician at the local shop. How the heck can you leave a screw inside a laptop when its visible that there is screw missing to the case. As for these problems, I have something simular on my CRT monitor. I'll occationally get random "glitches" sometimes its part of the screen turning like 400% more brigness and blurry than the rest. Other times its a black line accross the monitor. ON/off cycle fixes so, I think its my DVI converters. Which leads me to think it could be a signal quality problem.
